Halloween through the lens of yoga

Beyond the costumes and candy, this season carries deep symbolism.

In yoga, Halloween invites us to turn inward, to face our shadows, release what no longer serves us, and find balance between light and dark. 🌗

Just as the trees let go of their leaves, we too can practice letting go — of old stories, habits, or energies that weigh us down.

It’s a time to honor transformation, stillness, and the unseen parts of ourselves.
Breathe deeply, move mindfully, and embrace the magic of change. 🌙

Friday morning and this morning? I had the absolute honour of teaching a yoga class to these beautiful ladies. ✨

Their story? They all worked together in Banff in their 20s—and this week, they reunited to celebrate their 65th birthdays with an Airbnb getaway in Mulmur

The pure joy and energy that radiated from these incredible souls was powerful.

Last week, my eldest son told me how he had been staying at his grandparents' house. After dinner my son was doing some homework, Nana was reading the paper..Grandpa got up and announced 'I'm going to watch the news' my son was so genuinely stunned, he said 'mum who goes to sit in front of the TV to watch the news'? I explained that when I was growing up the news was at 6pm and 10pm and everyone sat down to hear the news of the day..Now we are fed information and news constantly and I don't think it's necessarily right way, our brains and emotional system cannot process that much!

A few months ago, a good friend asked if I'd ever made sourdough bread. I shared my struggle with making the starter and how I had given up. With enthusiasm, she offered to give me some of her starter and sent me all the details to make it, assuring me, "You can do it, it's easy!" So, I received my starter in a jar and got several WhatsApp videos of her explaining how to make sourdough in her kitchen. To my delight, I followed her instructions and it actually "worked"! Now, I'm turning out two to three loaves a week, and each time I start, I think of her. Bread is such a historic, basic food that our female ancestors have been making in various forms for centuries. Women sat together, baking bread in every corner of the world. This sourdough not only brings back memories but also reminds me of a friend who believed in me. It highlights how important it is to surround yourself with people who lift you. Their support truly is one of life's greatest gifts! 🍞❤️ The saying 'We become who the person we surround ourselves with'
