The weeks and months and years of stress, real or imagined.

Witnessing atrocities committed around the world; past, present and anticipating the dystopian future.

Seeing injustice committed, genocide, murders, rapes, domination, cruelty of people to people or animals.

Worrying about food, a place to live, rent, loved ones, pets and friends.

Worrying about your own abilities; to cope, to thrive, to survive.

*These take a huge toll on us*

As I tell my clients: energy is FINITE 💚

There is pain in seeing our own limits, hitting a wall we didn't see coming.

When your energy is depleted by your internal and external world, you may be weepy, irritable, lonely.

If you cope by isolating, turning within, shutting down, that is OK.

Sometimes you need to.

Sometimes you need community to grieve together, sometimes you need touch, connection, love.

But we all need REST 💥

The goal is to listen to yourself so well that you can tell when you are dysregulated when you're in it.
What does it look like in your body? Sweaty palms, raise heart rate, tension in your stomach?

My latest bout with migraines got me paying attention! Gabor Mate's When The Body Says No helped put the scientific lens on the real physical and medical benefits of preventing serious illness through THERAPY.

Here's a graph that lays out what some trauma responses are.
Trauma doesn't have to make the headlines, as some people think. They say, "it's not as bad as..." yet it can still be trauma! Minimizing your experiences only pushes pain down (down, down and then up up up), not away.
Be gentle with yourself. Your experiences are valid ❤

Trauma responses are the reactions we have to events that we perceive as threatening or frightful to our wellbeing. Fight, flight, freeze and fawn are the four types of responses that are typically learned as a means of survival during a tumultuous childhood, an abusive relationship, or another form of trauma. Although these responses are appropriate for specific situations, we can sometimes carry them with us into other situations, or experience them chronically, and it can be harmful to our mental health.
