Nous devons absolument réfléchir a la justice reproductive ensemble 🙏
We cannot ignore the urgent need for change. Once again, we mourn the loss of another Black mother, Olympian Tori Bowie, due to preventable pregnancy and birth-related complications, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia.
Black women and birthing people continue to experience disproportionately poor health, pregnancy, and birth outcomes compared to white women and birthing people. Black mothers are still 3x more likely to die from pregnancy and birth-related complications, and more likely to experience mistreatment or abuse during their care, despite socioeconomic factors.
Today, I invite you to reflect on the significance of reproductive justice and maternal health, especially if you are in the medical field.
It's essential that we all...
- Center the health of Black mothers in our communities
- Unpack implicit biases and become self-aware.
- Listen to Black women's experiences. You can start by heading to the On Health Podcast to listen to key voices demanding maternal health equity and support, including Tracie Collins, Kimberly Seals Allers, Shafia Monroe, Aza Nedhari, and others.
