Relax, they say.
Put yourself first, they say.
I can say from experience, even though I work in the wellness world, that finding time to relax is waaay easier said than done. Have you tried sitting down after having a nice meal without thinking about the pile of dishes waiting for you in the sink? Taking a nap so you can digest better? Pfff. How dare you? Then having to deal with all of it when it’s time to cook dinner? No, please. Future me wants to find the kitchen clean when she’s back.
I might find time for a run or a swim, maybe, something that my Fitbit will congratulate me for. Then, ok. It is something productive, exercising is important, we know that! Plus, I won’t feel judged by my partner if I come home sweating instead of letting him see me asleep on the couch in the middle of the day. Doesn’t sound right.
Maybe if I go to a spa then? Get a massage? I can say I’m kind of doing something, it doesn’t sound like I’m that lazy, right? I can even take pictures and share them on social media to prove I’m enjoying life and not just doing nothing. This is cool. I work hard so I it makes sense that I please myself with these perks, doesn’t it?
But have you tried doing nothing and not taking pictures of it? No phone. No books. No tv. No music apps. Allowing yourself to receive some care, adjustments? Feel every joint of your body supported? Being in a silent room, comfortable temperature, not worrying about time? Just letting your body and mind absorb the experiences they have gone through lately. Recovering from fatigue, stress, insomnia, anxiety, fear… Whatever has been making your nervous system work more than it should.
Just as any other habit, relaxation requires practice.
I am offering a Restorative Yoga practice at in NDG this afternoon 16:00 – 18:00. No previous experience is required. Postures are adapted to all participants. Class is bilingual in FR and EN. Even in Portuguese if needed ;-)
If you have any questions, send me a DM. I will be happy to guide you into a state of deep relaxation.
