This is no ordinary cup of coffe.
Coffe on the terrace of is one of my summer rituals. Today, I was standing in their long lineup for a cup to go, trying to ignore the little squeeze of sadness in my heart to see the abandoned terrace, and my favorite spot where you can get just the right amount of sun and shade without having to move for a while. Then it was finally my turn, and of course, I had forgotten my wallet.
As I apologized to the barrister and set out to walk away, the gentleman who was behind me in line called out in French :"Madame, you are abandoning this coffee? Come! It's on me"!
As any true blood Iranian would do, I said no and thank you profusely, and tried to stop him from paying, which he adamantly refused, and I walked away with my favorite coffee and perhaps a new ritual: buying coffee for random strangers.
To the generous and funny Montreal gentleman, and his beautiful lady; thank you, and I am sorry I forgot to ask your names...I was rather overtaken emotionally...next coffee is on me.
