The Winter Solstice
Winter Solstice 2022 in the Northern Hemisphere will be at 4:48pm Eastern Standard time on December 21st, marking the first day of winter.
At this time in the Northern Hemisphere we are experiencing the longest and darkest nights of the year and the shortest days with the least amount of daylight. The dark overshadows the light, but has reached the turning point! After the Winter Solstice the days become longer and longer.
In winter everything lies dormant in the silent earth, it is a time of rest and reflection before the awakening toward brighter days.
Winter is a time to go within. It's the fruitful darkness and silence out of which our soul's yearnings and new inspirations can eventually emerge, and our own personal growth cycles begin to deepen.
“ The nature of yoga is to shine the light of awareness
into the darkest corners of the body.”
Jason Crandell.
Many cultures, religions and spiritual traditions have honored the winter solstice. Often, this time of greatest darkness has encouraged humanity to gather amongst loved ones and celebrate the rebirth and return to the light. That is most notably found in many ancient religions and can be seen in festivals and holidays such as Christmas and Chanukah..
In a spiritual sense, no matter your tradition, this is an ideal time to embrace your inner self and reflect on who you are and where you’d like to go. This is a perfect time for reflection, introspection and intention setting. Honour your stillness. Understanding one’s emotions, motivations and desires are crucial in order to manifest the life you wish to live.
