Research over the last 20 years suggests the psychopathology of hoarding is distinct from that of OCD.

The working group for the ICD-11 (International Classification of Disease) has been considering including hoarding as a separate disorder since at least 2014. Currently, it appears that it will be listed alongside OCD, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and Hypochondriasis, under the Heading of Obsessive Compulsive or Related Disorders.
