Medical Perspectives (MedSpecs) is a McGill undergraduate organization that maintains a supportive community for students who are curious about medical careers to access information, exchange ideas, and gain experience first-hand. Our community is founded upon the guiding principle that it is not important whether you are certain about a career in medicine, but rather, that ample resources should be available so that all students can make an educated decision about their future. We feel very strongly that in order to know whether a career in medicine is best suited to you, an understanding of the day to day occurrences in the lives of professionals and trainees is crucial. To address this need, our organization has partnered with the McGill University Health Center (MUHC) system of hospitals to offer the physician shadowing program and professional speaker series. The UBC MD/PhD program is a 7-year program offered jointly by the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and is designed for students who want to pursue a career as clinician-scientists. This program provides highly qualified students with the opportunity to combine their medical school experience with intensive scientific training.

This annual event includes presentations by program directors Dr. Torsten Nielsen and Dr. Melanie Murray, currently enrolled MD/PhD students, and our invited keynote speaker Dr. Samuel Aparicio. The event is intended to showcase the research being conducted by our students and UBC clinician-scientist faculty, and to recruit new students and interested faculty into our program.

It is an informal arrangement, mainly providing an opportunity for students and prospective applicants to ask questions about the program, the admissions process, and the clinician-scientist career path. There will also be Zoom breakout rooms for attendees to chat with current students and program directors. Prospective applicants are welcome to attend. Registration is not required.

To all aspiring med students, MTL-SONO is recruiting standardized patients (SPs) for this year's conference which will be taking place on September 30th and October 1st at the Jewish General Hospital. We offer a 100$/day compensation and a free lunch on each day. In addition, this is a really great opportunity to learn bedside ultrasound and its many incredible uses, while also getting a chance to meet upper year students, residents, and staff physicians who you will likely run into throughout your training at McGill!
