A milestone for belonging in Newfoundland and Labrador!

With new support from the Provincial and Federal governments, L'Arche Avalon is moving closer to opening its first two inclusive homes in St. John’s. These homes will be places where people with and without intellectual disabilities live together, building friendships and communities of mutual care and belonging.

This project is part of a growing national movement for inclusive housing at L’Arche, alongside new initiatives in Vancouver and Stratford. Across Canada, we are showing that affordable, accessible, community-rooted housing is possible — and that people with intellectual disabilities are leaders in shaping the places we call home.

We’re excited to see this dream becoming reality in St. John’s!

🌈 Every July, we celebrate Disability Pride Month by honouring the identities, culture, and contributions of people with disabilities - in Canada and around the world. At L’Arche Canada, we recognize disability as a natural part of human diversity and a vibrant community full of strength and pride. Let’s uplift voices, foster visibility, and listen deeply - building a world where everyone belongs.

We join 40+ allies urging the government to fix a tax change that would cut crucial support for people with disabilities.
Tax fairness must include disability equity.
📄 Read our letter: https://inclusioncanada.ca/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/National-Disability-Network-Letter-to-Min-Champagne-Tax-Cut-Affect-on-PWD_June-5_25_pdf.pdf?fbclid=IwY2xjawKwDedleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFsOFQyYlhsREZoekhYY0toAR4eRvfuNzAVxmQMLWLGZ3a0Slkk3p_Dx4axAqJRe07KKlsKRgBoCR8PoNH4Vw_aem_8q3u6TaweDlEQpbokvc21Q

We join our 40+ allies in the National Disability Network to express urgent concern about the federal government's proposed reduction to the basic personal income tax rate from 15% to 14% over 2 years.

The planned decrease will unintentionally reduce the value of the Disability Tax Credit (DTC).

The additional expenses related to disability do not decrease when tax rates fall.

The bill is being debated now, and we need an amendment to protect people with disabilities.

Please call or write your MP now to address this urgent issue!

CREATING A WORLD WHERE EVERYONE BELONGS / CRÉE UN MONDE OÙ CHACUN EST INCLU

Across Canada and around the world, L’Arche creates communities of friendship and belonging. In L’Arche, people with and without intellectual disabilities live, work, learn, and grow together. L’Arche demonstrates that when persons with intellectual disabilities take their place at the table, they contribute to a more just, compassionate, and vibrant world for all.
