I’m proud to announce that I’ve recently completed the Problem Gambling Counsellor Training, earning my CPGC designation.

This marks a significant step in my commitment to supporting individuals and families affected by problematic behaviours and gambling-related harms, especially among youth.

In the upcoming weeks, Lighthouse will begin rolling out its most comprehensive Problematic Gambling Support program to youth, adults and families affected by this rapidly increasing problem.

The rise in youth problem gambling is overwhelming and undeniable, driven in part by the easy accessibility and “gamified” nature of online platforms.

The impact is severe: Youth with gambling problems report higher rates of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and su***de attempts, at twice the rate of other addictions.

Let’s work together to raise awareness, support affected youth, and promote healthier choices. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available.

9-8-8 is a new phone number (in Canada) that went live on Nov 30th to help people get help in a mental health crisis.

Similar to 911, this line is dedicated for anyone in need of mental health assistance of any kind.

Someone is always listening and people care.

It is the beginning of a new year, and with that comes the pressure of setting intentions for positive change.

**

For some, New Year`s resolutions are set with the best of intentions, but are quickly set aside or forgotten as life takes charge – “Maybe next year “! If you are in recovery, you know that you do not always have the luxury of postponing your intentions to the next year.

**

If you are in recovery, you know that most of the things you want are on the other side of sobriety.

**

So as you are reflecting on your goals and intensions for the coming year, be mindful of what is most important.

**

You do not need to set huge, monumental goals in order to make positive changes in the New Year.

**

It is ok to take small, achievable steps that allow you to build on your recovery.
Be patient and focus on the steps that you need to take to be healthy and in control of your life.

**

For some of us, being sober is the first and most important intention that we will set in the New Year, because it is the necessary catalyst in making all other goals achievable.
No matter where you are in your recovery, remember that it is a process, a daily commitment and remember to celebrate all the milestones and all the successes, because there will be successes!
