Not all manual therapies have the same objective and the distinction matters more than most people realize.

When I say 'regular massage', I mean Swedish, deep tissue, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy techniques that primarily work the muscular and connective tissue systems. However there are certain health conditions where these techniques may be contraindicated, meaning they cannot be applied to specific areas of the body or may require a therapist who specializes in manual lymphatic drainage instead.

This is because massage therapy and manual lymphatic drainage work with two entirely different systems.

Swipe to understand why that distinction matters. 🐚

My C&G tuning forks have become one of my go-to rituals between sessions. ✨️

It's a way of clearing what isn't mine from a heavy session or managing my own dysregulation when life is lifing. 😮‍💨

When struck together, the forks produce a sound frequency that stimulates the vagus nerve, shifting the body out of fight-or-flight and into a state of calm.

It's a tool that is always within reach to refresh my energy, ground and recenter myself.

If you want to know more about how I use these in our sessions, drop a comment and I'll share. 🤗

Not every massage has the same goal 📍

Some sessions help you unwind and disconnect. Others are to address what your body has been holding onto the tension, the restriction, the discomfort that keeps coming back.

My most requested offering is the Art of Shu Therapeutic Bodywork. That says a lot about the people who find their way to me. They're not just looking to feel good for a day. They're looking for relief.

If you are too, book your session - Link in bio ✨️

Self-Care Saturday Reminder: Let’s talk about the connection between massage and mental well-being. For those of us constantly juggling work, family, and life’s demands, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But did you know that massage isn’t just about relieving physical tension? It’s also a accessible tool to support your mental health. 💆🏾‍♀️✨

Massage can help reduce stress, ease anxiety, and boost your mood by encouraging the release of endorphins and calming the nervous system. Taking the time to care for your body through therapeutic touch can lead to a clearer mind and a more balanced, peaceful state..

When life gets busy, self-care becomes essential. Make a commitment to prioritize your well-being—not just for your body but for your mind too.

YOUR INITIAL SESSION

I've said it before, massage is way more than just relaxation. We are stimulating various systems in our bodies from the nervous, lymphatic, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, etc.

This is why filling out an intake form is so important, it allows me to understand your needs and become aware of any conditions that be contraindicated for massage.

I can then determine which modalities to utilize to compose your signature massage or conclude that I may not be able to work with you as it may be harmful to your well-being. Depending on your reason of consult, I do a structural assessment to get an understanding of the root of your problem.

Your initial session allows me to get to know you and gives me insight into your lifestyle, how you use your body, stressors and medical history. Not everyone operates their practice this way, but it is important for ME to be equipped with as much information as possible to consider my therapeutic approach.

Hence why your first session is a little longer 🌻

When done properly, prenatal massage is safe, but not all touch is equal.

Some areas you might ask your partner to massage, like the tops of your shoulders, hands, ankles, feet and lower back, include acupoints that should only be worked by someone trained in prenatal massage or acupressure.

A certified prenatal therapist knows:
✨ which areas to avoid
✨ how much pressure is safe
✨ how to support and position your body
✨ how to adapt each session to your trimester

Pregnancy already asks so much of you. Being in knowledgeable, caring hands allows you to relax, feel supported and move through this time more comfortably.
