Like many of us in the West, I woke this morning to see news of yet another country being bombed and more innocent civilians being killed; many of them, children.

Friends, parents and otherwise, we *must* speak up, act up, and protect children: ALL children, everywhere. If you are feeling helpless today: please, hug your child. Go as a family to a demonstration. Call your officials and demand an arms embargo NOW. Teach your kids that radical love and rage are forms of powerful and sacred resistance.

To the inevitable comments or messages asking me "What does this have to do with being a doula??" or "Stay in your lane: you shouldn't get political"...Please save yourself the time because

1) All children deserve a life free of violence. (See above - *all kids are our kids*.)
2) Parenting is political. Internalize anti-oppression and focus on equity in your day-to-day life and in how you raise your kids.

We owe our future generations a life free of generational pain. We need to raise cycle-breakers. The way you treat your children, from birth, matters.

Today, and for so many days/weeks/years, my mama heart is heavy, but my activist heart is on fire.

In case no one has told you...when you have a baby, it is MORE THAN OKAY to say "no" to things that contribute to stress or make your 4th trimester *harder* (like people who drop by unannounced, don't bring you a nourishing, postpartum meal, and expect you to entertain...)

You can say "no" in the interest of prioritizing yours and your family's needs.

And if you find this hard to do and need an advocate, a postpartum doula can help!

Transgender Remembrance Day honours the incredible transgender folx who we have lost, our friends, family, and community members we love, and is a reminder that NONE of us are free until we are all free 💜

To all of the wonderful trans people I have the honour to know and love, and to those I've not had the privilege yet to meet: please know you are loved. You are seen. Your lives matter. I won't stop fighting for you.

Liberation from fear, from feeling everything is a challenge, from feeling small in the face of hardship... Liberation can look like many things. Where does "community" fit in?

In times of difficulty or uncertainty, community care is what keeps us safe, connected, and feeling cared for. ✨️

If you're the friend or loved one of someone who just welcomed a baby into their family, you cannot imagine the care and love they feel from you dropping off a hot meal, doing their dishes, or pooling resources to give them the gift of a postpartum doula!

Im elated to announce that E-GIFT CERTIFICATES are now available, as well as our PAY IT FORWARD program, to help make a doula more accessible to community members who may need a little extra support right now ❤️

Liberation, community, care, support...yeah, I'm feeling good! Let's get it, people ✨️

Confession: I may suck at social media and self-promotion, but I am *really* passionate about postpartum care that is rooted in decolonization, advocating for you, and holding space for all of the complex emotions and needs that arise during this special time 💫

In case it's not been made crystal clear...

This account has always been, and will remain, pro-liberation, anti-genocide, and stands then, as now, with all those resisting colonial oppression and imperialism.

I truly can not believe I have to say this, but ALL CHILDREN DESERVE TO LIVE. Palestinian parents want what all parents want: for their children to be fed, safe, and know they are loved. Palestinian children need to play, learn, grow, and feel safe.

In the thousands, in the millions, WE ARE ALL PALESTINIANS. May their bravery and struggle for existence inspire YOU to speak up for them and do what is right. 🙏🏽🇵🇸🙌🏾♥️

Posted • Parenting under occupation. Parenting through genocide. Parenting amidst rubble, sirens, and loss.

We stand in full solidarity with the families of Gaza, with Palestinian parents who continue to love, protect, and fight for their children in the face of unspeakable violence. Their resistance is not only political—it is ancestral, it is sacred, and it is deeply human.

To raise children in the shadow of bombs and still teach them to hope is a revolutionary act.

To refuse erasure, to hold your people’s memory in your children’s name, is a radical kind of parenting the world must bear witness to.

The struggle against genocide, against dispossession and colonization—from Turtle Island to Palestine—is one struggle.

Sending love today to all the mothers who have given birth, to all those who mother children in their communities and chosen families, to those who have experienced loss, to those who always wanted to have children but could not, to those who have difficult relationships with their mothers, for those who have lost their babies due to famine, war, and genocide.

It truly takes a village to raise a child; let's recognize the often invisible labour of mothers in all of our various shapes or roles ♥️

PSA: Children are a marginalized group, and they deserve better. *Every* child deserves dignity, care, love, and respect.

WHY is this such a controversial idea? We can see, each day, in a myriad of ways, that some people act like children's lives are "less than"; subjecting them to enslavement, abuse, neglect, even genocide, and otherwise treated like their lives are worth nothing. ALL children deserve to be housed, protected, fed...you know, basic human rights, at the very least.

✨ A society that shrugs off its youngest members isn’t strong. It’s failing. ✨

So, what does this have to do with postpartum care? Everything! The postpartum period is where it all begins:
➡️ Gentle handling.
➡️ Honouring emotions.
➡️ Respectful, gentle responses to difficult feelings.
➡️ Building trust instead of tearing it down.

We can have a positive impact in both how we treat our babies from Day One, and how we teach those babies to grow up respecting and valuing all lives: no matter how small the person, or where they happen to have been born in the World.

If you think being “tough” on babies builds character— you’re just being a bully. (Please don’t be your child’s first bully.) Treat our future generations with compassion, kindness, and attend to them with gentle care from the start. Instill in them that no matter how small the person, all people are worthy of respect.

Respectful, decolonized postpartum support that sees every family—and every baby—as worthy, is part of Gentle Revolution's main missions. Let’s learn together, and start the revolution where it matters most: at the beginning ❤
