Did you know that your brain is always adapting to new situations? If there is construction and you have to take a different route to work, or if your feet have to adjust to the sensation of a new pair of shoes, your body and mind have to work together to figure it out.
The same goes for a new pair of glasses - when your eyes have been used to seeing one way for awhile, they may need time to adjust to seeing differently (even though they should be seeing better with the new prescription). If you're having trouble with a new prescription, start wearing it first thing in the morning when your eyes are "fresh" and build up the amount of time you're wearing it slowly.
It can sometimes take a couple weeks to adjust to a new pair of glasses, but make sure to contact us if you're having trouble or you haven't noticed any improvement!

Children who are experiencing difficulty learning in school should have a routine eye exam as part of the investigation into their struggles, and sometimes, additional testing is required. Binocular Vision & Perception Evaluations are not covered by your child's health card but may be covered by private insurance. Some of this testing can be done at our clinic, while other tests require a referral to clinics outside of Moose Jaw. If your child is struggling, speak with their optometrist to see if additional testing is recommended! Call us today at 306-693-8584.

Halloween should be fun and not a trip to the optometrist office!
Here are some safety tips:
- Only wear contact lens that are prescribed by your optometrist, fashion / theatrical coloured ones are not recommended.
- Do not put "non eye" make-up (lip liner, blush, etc) on / around your eyes.
- Make sure your costume & hair pieces do not have sharp parts that could poke an eye.
- Wear reflective costume so others can see you.
If you do have an eye mishap, give our office a call at 306-693-8584 right away!

Would you recognize the signs of a vision problem in your child? This video from the Canadian Association of Optometrists gives a number of clues that your child needs an eye exam and may need glasses: https://youtu.be/Pxh7Pd4mOo8
If you notice any of these symptoms, or have any other concerns about your child's eyes, make an appointment with your optometrist right away! And even if you don't have any concerns, children should have yearly eye exams starting as young as 6 months old to monitor for eye health and vision changes as they grow quickly in their early years!

History of Primary Eye Care Centre:
Primary Eye Care Centre was founded by Dr. Myles McMorris and Dr. Jacqueline John in 1982. Dr. McMorris and Dr. John were both raised in the province of Saskatchewan and graduated from the University of Waterloo, Ontario in 1981 with Doctor of Optometry degrees. Dr. Shannon Gatrell joined the practice in 2008 as an associate and became a partner in the business in 2010. Dr. Shawn Lins then joined the practice in 2014 as an associate and became a partner in 2018. Dr. McMorris officially retired from the practice in June 2018. We wish him the best in his retirement. Dr. Marcia Mitschke joined the practice as an associate in August 2018.
We have always felt that in addition to serving our patients to the best of our abilities, it is important to contribute to our professional Association, our Community and our Province. We are proud members of the Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists (SAO), Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO), and the Eye Health Council of Canada. We are very supportive of the SAO Optometric Assistants Program.
We also strive to be involved in the community through volunteering, sponsorship, and participation in various community events and fundraisers, such as Relay for Life, Special Olympics, YMCA Healthy Kids Day, Youth Curling, and Youth Soccer to name a few!
We are very fortunate and proud to lead a dedicated, friendly and knowledgeable staff! We look forward to fulfilling all of your eye care needs!
