The Prevention Program under Child and Youth Milopemahtesewin Services (CYMS) is a brand new and exciting program that has been developed for the purpose of reducing the risks of children coming into care and, ultimately, to help keep families together. Our plan is to focus our efforts on providing programs and services that will help strengthen family wellness and nurture resilience in families. We believe that families begin to form when a baby is in the womb and therefore our prevention work starts right from the beginning. We acknowledge that many factors can impact the wellness and connectedness of any family (such as addictions, grief, trauma, abuse, poverty, difficult upbringing, relationship difficulties, lack of support, etc.) however, we also know that with the right supports, families can achieve resilience and experience growth as a result of these factors. Our program is accessible to all families including those that are involved in the Child Welfare system. Our aim is to support families based on their unique needs. Our team of seven staff will deliver programming and services that are trauma-informed, culturally appropriate and prevention focused. Our team includes: 1 Supervisor – Brittany Biedermann 2 Parent Wellness Workers - Lindsay Linklater & Touchan Fiddler 2 Infant Wellness Workers - Jessica Katapaytuk & vacant 2 Family Crisis Support Workers - Lily Flores & vacant Our team will be providing a large range of creative programs and services that will be offered both within the homes of families and also in the community. Some families may benefit from one-on-one in-home support in which Family Wellness Plans will be created that will be tailored to meet the holistic needs of each family; while other families may wish to participate in our consistent and attractive outreach community programs such as parenting programs and family-friendly programs. Whatever our involvement may be, our team is passionate about seeing families thrive and we are excited and honoured to be a part of your family’s wellness journey. * note: more information will be provided related to referral processes once program is officially launched :)
