Hi y'all,

We’re sure many of you heard this morning that our friends at Steinbach Pride made the difficult decision to postpone their event this year due to threats and serious safety concerns. We’ve spoken to them and reached out to support in any way we can. We encourage you to show some extra love and care to your q***r friends and family this weekend.

Making a decision like this has to be so disappointing, so scary, and we know it’s not something they would’ve done lightly. The safety of our community members is, and always needs to be, our first priority. Showing up for each other, especially through times like this, is how we keep each other safe.

Sending all of our love and support to the people in and around Steinbach and all those who are feeling shaken because of this. If you need support, we’ve got resources on our website (pembinavalleypride.ca/find-support). Take care of yourselves and know that there are so many people that love and support you, exactly as you are.

With school starting this week, we’re wrapping up Pride at Home and ending this year’s series with an important reminder: allyship requires action.

This kind of allyship is one of the most impactful ways you can celebrate Pride all year round, whether you're 2SLGBTQIA+ or not.

Not sure what allyship in action looks like? Swipe through the photos or check out the caption below for some ideas.

1. Write to your elected officials and let them know you support Pride events in your community.

2. Educate yourself so you can better support 2SLGBTQIA+ people around you and confidently address harmful comments when you encounter them.

3. Address misinformation around 2SLGBTQIA+ topics in the conversations happening around you.

4. When someone asks you to use their chosen name and pronouns, use them.

5. Use gender-inclusive language all the time, even if you don’t think anyone around you is trans or gender-diverse.

6. Check in with your 2SLGBTQIA+ loved ones when there’s more hate than usual in the news or tough days like Trans Day of Remembrance.
