Hello friends,

As many of you may have heard, the rainbow crosswalk in Souris was vandalized with white paint on Friday night. The rainbow crosswalk has been part of the community for four years, and these actions are disheartening and infuriating. The crosswalk is a symbol of love and inclusion for all members of the community and to see it destroyed is a clear attempt to erase and harm q***r folks.

If you haven’t seen Brandon Pride’s video yet, we encourage you to check it out. Nora said a lot of things we would like to echo. We know that q***r communities are going to support each other, just like we always do.

We can’t do it alone though. We need allies to help reduce the harm to our communities. Are you calling out homophobia and transphobia when you see it? How are you supporting your q***r friends, neighbours, and family members? Share your action steps in the comments to give other people ideas, and make sure you remember that “ally” is a verb.

It’s very frustrating that so many Manitoba Pride organizations are going through stuff like this, and that we have to continue to make posts like this. If you’re having trouble or need support, please access the resources on our website. We know we are stronger together and will continue to be, no matter what.

Sending so much love and support to our friends in Westman, especially those in Souris.

Trans Day of Remembrance is a heavy day for our trans and gender-diverse siblings. Last year, someone reached out to us and offered to put together care packages so folks feel loved and supported on this difficult day. We would love to be able to expand it this year and need your help to do so.

If you’re a maker, crafter, baker, or want to show love and support to trans and gender-diverse people in the Pembina Valley, let us know. You can send us a DM or email chair@pembinavalleypride.ca. If you’re not able to offer something for the baskets but you would like to support this work, you can make a donation by sending us an e-transfer, using PayPal, or getting us cash or a cheque. Please make a note that this is for the TDOR baskets so we know! As a reminder, we are not a registered charity so we cannot issue tax receipts.

Thank you so much for sharing a bit of love and care with community members who might need it. Trans and gender-diverse folks, keep an eye out for the request form. We’ll be posting it in the next few weeks.
