With recent influxes of more members (especially more NEW members!), we wanted to provide a quick reminder/overview of regular gym etiquette.

When using the facility, please make sure you…

☑️ Remove outdoor footwear before entering
☑️ Wipe down equipment after use
☑️ Put garbage in the garbage
☑️ Unrack your weights after use
☑️ Put weights/equipment back where it belongs (‼️)
☑️ Avoid propping doors open or leaving doors open when exiting (NOTE: propping the upstairs multiplex door open can actually cause the door to break ‼️)

Thank you for your commitment to keeping the gym clean, safe, and organized for all members! 👍🏼

Bonus piece of etiquette: while there is no need for heavy fragrances in the gym, we would ask for all members to be cognizant of their body odour; please wear deodorant in the gym! ☺️🧼

Planning your workout routine for the week? 📋☑️

Here’s a quick reminder that we have partnered with Morris School once again so that high school students can learn about health and fitness principles in a real community gym setting!

High School Phys. Ed. classes will be using the Wellness Center on:

🗓 Mondays: 2:15–3:15
🗓 Wednesdays: 8:45–10:45 & 2:15–3:15
🗓 Fridays: 2:05–3:15

Please plan your workouts accordingly, as the gym may be busier during these times.

Introducing our newest member of the board - Madeleine Guay!

Madeleine joined the board with an interest in further contributing to her community 3 months ago. 

Here are some interesting facts about Madeleine:

• Madeleine lives in Morris and she is a Paramedic!

• Her favourite exercise is cable rows, and she likes to stay active by canoeing and walking her dog.

• Her favourite pre-workout meal is chicken and rice, and her favourite post-workout snack is a yogurt parfait. 

• Madeleine’s drink of choice is a protein oat milk latte, her comfort food is homemade hamburgers, and her go-to quick meal is a protein smoothie!

• Madeleine’s favourite restaurant is Dairy Delight, and a movie she has on repeat is Ferris Buhler’s Day Off.

• One of Madeleine’s current goals is to feel stronger.

Introducing Hali Mazinke, Member-at-Large.

Hali lives in Morris and she joined the Wellness Centre board in May of 2024.

Here are some fun and interesting facts about Hali:

• Hali’s favourite exercises is a straight-arm pull down (honestly, anything but squats is okay) and she likes to stay active by going to the gym.

• Her favourite pre-workout snack is a chocolate chip muffin from Tim Horton’s and her favourite post-workout snack is a Fairlife chocolate protein drink with a banana. Her drink of choice is chocolate milk, blue powerade, or just regular water.

• Hali’s current workout split is 4-5 days per week, consisting of Lower, Back/Shoulders/Triceps, Lower, Shoulders/Biceps/Chest, and Cardio. One of her goals is to become a stronger runner and build endurance for her cardio workouts. 

• Hali’s comfort food is Bill’s pizza, and her quick go-to meal is a can of tuna.

• She enjoys hanging out with friends, spending time in her backyard, walking her dog, golfing, and reading.

Introducing Christie Fehr: Member-at-Large and member of the Maintenance Committee.

Christie is from Rosenort and she joined the gym board one year ago. Since then, she has been willing to step up and help with various maintenance needs at the gym. 

Here are some interesting facts about Christie:

• Christie is self-employed and she has five kids! She loves strength training, and she stays active by skating and playing volleyball with her kids during her free time.

• Christie loves fruit and pico de gallo with chips. Her drink of choice is Pepsi Zero.

• Her go-to quick meals are butter chicken, spaghetti, and casseroles. She also loves Olive Garden and their unlimited salad and bread sticks!

• Christie spends her evenings watching her kids play sports, and on the weekends she enjoys her Costco runs! She’s also a fan of Love is Blind, but her favourite way to relax is going to the gym.

• One of Christie’s current goals is being in the best shape she can be for herself.

Laura has been a member-at-large on the gym board for the past 18 months and she is also a helpful member of the Personnel Committee.

Here are some fun facts about Laura:

• Laura lives in Morris and she works in Video Lotto Technical Support.

• Her favourite exercise is anything involving cardio, and her favourite way to relax is going for a walk in the river trails.

• Laura’s favourite pre-workout snack would be a protein shake, and her favourite post-gym snack is cheese!

• Laura’s comfort food is cabbage rolls, her quick go-to meal is beef stroganoff, and her favourite restaurant is Santa Lucia.

• Laura’s drink of choice is hot water and she loves anything True Crime.

Introducing Justyce Smoke, a Member-at-Large, and a member of the Marketing and Maintenance Committees.

Justyce joined the gym board in 2024 and he was a long-time MWC member before that. 

Here are some facts about Justyce:

• Justyce lives in Morris and he works in Maintenance.

• He is also a professional fighter in Bare Knuckle Ice Wars ( )

• Justyce’s favourite exercise is bench press, but he also enjoys sparring/boxing. His current workout split is Push-Pull-Legs, with cardio 5 days/week.

• His favourite pre-workout snack is a Rice Krispie, and his favourite post-workout snack is a protein smoothie. His comfort food is pizza, and his quick go-to meal would be a rotisserie chicken from Bigway.

• Justyce’s favourite restaurant is Wendy’s and his drink of choice is a Ghost energy drink.

• Justyce enjoys playing NHL and Fortnite, working out, and playing hockey. His favourite movie to watch on repeat is The Fighter.

Introducing our next board member, Head of the Marketing and Personnel Committees, Holly Hildebrand!

Holly has been a member at the Wellness Centre since she moved to the Morris area in 2021, and she has been a member of the MWC board since 2022.

Holly (known to her students as Mrs. Hildebrand or Mrs. H) has 2 degrees from the University of Manitoba, and she now works in Literacy Support at a local school.

Here are some more facts about Holly:

• Holly likes to stay active by going to the gym, playing sports, and hiking. Her favourite hike so far has been the beehive trail at Lake Louise!

• Holly’s favourite exercise would be squats or lateral raises. She has no workout split, she just works on whatever she feels like/whatever isn’t sore that day, but she has been adding more cardio, mobility, and yoga to her regular strength training!

• Holly’s favourite snacks/quick meals are a bagel, an egg sandwich, a yogurt parfait, protein oatmeal, and fruit.

• Her favourite comfort food is pizza, toast, soup, or Chinese food, and her drink of choice is coffee, tea, lemon water, or an energy drink.

• Holly’s pump up gym music includes a mix of Brittany Spears and other girl pop, the Black Eyed Peas and other 2000s bangers, MGK, rock, rap, EDM, and phonk.

• Finally, Holly spends her time at the gym, volunteering, reading, cooking/baking, cleaning, shopping, and helping on the farm, and her favourite way to relax is watching YouTube, reality TV, The Office, and cooking/baking shows like MasterChef, Kitchen Nightmares, or Top Chef.

Introducing our Treasurer, Pat Schmitke!

Pat has been on the gym board for the past two years, and his financial know-how and fiscal responsibility makes him a fantastic Treasurer for the board.

Here are some facts about Pat:

• Pat is self-employed and he likes to stay active by spending time with his grandkids whenever he gets the chance.

• Pat’s go-to quick meals include anything from Bigway - like a case of chicken burgers, or a pepperoni pizza!

• Pat’s drink of choice is a Corona SunBrew, and his favourite fast food joint is McDonald’s!

• Weekdays and weekends you can find Pat at work, but one of his current goals is to start working a bit less and find more time for the gym.

• Pat’s favourite genre of music is country 🤠

Introducing our Vice-Chair: Rebecca Thiessen!

Rebecca has been on the Wellness Centre board for 7 months now, and she has brought many new and exciting ideas to our meetings!

You have likely seen Rebecca at the gym, working as a Personal/Group Trainer, but did you know she is also a Life Guard, a Swim Instructor, and a full-time student?

Here are some fun facts about Rebecca:

• Her favourite exercises are bench press and deadlifts, and her favourite way to stay active is all around strength training. Her current workout split is 
Push-Quads-Pull-Hammies/Tabata.

• Her favourite pre-workout snack is a Rice Krispie and her favourite post-workout snack is anything with carbs and protein - often yogurt, a banana, or a protein shake.

• Rebecca’s favourite restaurants are Joey’s or The Keg, but she is also a Wendy’s fan. Her quick go-to meal would be shrimp tacos, and her drink of choice is Coke Zero.

• On weekdays you can find Rebecca studying and training clients, and on the weekend she likes to add in some snowmobiling!

• Rebecca watches Hacksaw Ridge, Van Helsing, and Vampire Diaries on repeat, but her favourite ways to relax are sleeping and going for a walk.

• Her current fitness goal is to build strength and endurance for an upcoming Ironman 70.3.
