We were absolutely delighted to welcome the wonderful Roadhouse Dancers to the Hartford last night! 👯 🤠

These very talented ladies lit up the evening with their incredible footwork and high energy performance 👌🏻🙏

It was a perfect way to enjoy a warm summer night, complete with lively country tunes, fresh-popped popcorn, and a refreshing mango lemonade to keep cool 😎🍋🥭

🌍✨ Our residents took a virtual trip to Poland this week with Rick Steves as their guide! 🇵🇱✈️

From the charming streets of Warsaw and Kraków, to the breathtaking views of the Vistula River, and the remarkable Wieliczka Salt Mines, it was a journey to remember! The session also included a thoughtful and respectful look at Auschwitz, located an hour outside of Kraków, honouring the memory of those lost during the Holocaust.

A day of learning, reflection, and adventure—all from the comfort of our armchairs. 🇵🇱🪑❤️

💖 Highland Dancer Connects Generations at Hartford! 💖

We were honored to host Maeve, a gifted Highland dancer and the great-granddaughter of one of our cherished residents, Beth McIntyre, at the Hartford last week.

Seeing Maeve share her passion with our community, and capturing the moment with four generations of her family together, reminded us all how deeply family and community are intertwined here. 🫶🏠

Together, we’ll be working on a guided group painting—no experience needed, just a willingness to have fun and get a little artsy!

Dan had dreamed of going whale watching ever since moving to British Columbia in 1994. It wasn’t until recently, in the wake of an ALS diagnosis, that he and his family decided to finally make it happen. Thanks to Chartwell Wish of a Lifetime - Rêver pour la vie, Dan’s wish came true as he set out on a fully guided whale watching and marine wildlife tour, joined by his family members.

Summer Fun & Flavours Has Begun at Chartwell! ☀️🍓🍦

At Chartwell Robert Speck, residents beat the heat with scoops from the ConeZone ice cream truck. Chartwell Thunder Bay hosted a seasonal tasting on the patio featuring live music. Chartwell Tiffin served up homemade strawberry icebox cake and iced tea, while Chartwell Georgian Traditions kicked things off with gooey S’mores under the sun!

What better way to spend a warm July afternoon than with good company, great wine, and a view that takes your breath away? Today, our residents enjoyed an outing to Stone Crop Acres Winery, where they sipped and savoured their way through a delightful wine tasting experience!

The wines were paired with a delicious cheese & charcuterie board, and Carol especially enjoyed learning about the different tasting notes of each wine, and discovering how the flavours complimented the cheeses 🧀 🍷

One highlight of the afternoon was the winery’s adorable resident corgi, named Pierogi (!!), who made fast friends with our very own Ray - and stayed loyally by his side for the better part of our visit 🐾💜

Thank you to our wonderful neighbours at Stone Crop Acres - your hospitality, views, and vino made this outing a truly memorable way to wrap up the week! 🍷🥰

Employee Appreciation Spotlight of the Month:

✨Carolanne Skerry ✨

This month, we're shining a light on one of our night shift stars!

Carolanne has been part of our Hartford family for over a decade. She started out working evenings in the kitchen nearly 10 years ago, but it wasn’t long before her compassionate heart called her back to the floor. For the past 5 years, she’s been a dedicated full-time night shift Guest Attendant —and she absolutely loves it!

When you ask Carolanne why she does what she does, her answer is simple and beautiful: “My aim in life is to make people happy. By doing the best I can and making a difference in their life, I feel that I’m doing the thing I was put here for.” 🫶

That spirit shines through in everything she does. One touching story she shared was about a resident she befriended during the quiet overnight hours. He was mentally challenged and often stopped by around 1 a.m. for a chat, a coffee, and a cookie. Carolanne always made time for him. Their late-night talks turned into a genuine friendship, and when he passed away, his brother personally thanked Carolanne for being there when it mattered most. 💙

Outside of work, Carolanne is a proud grandma to three wonderful grandchildren who are her world 🥰

We are so grateful to have someone as caring, thoughtful, and devoted as Carolanne on our team. Thank you for the difference you make every single day (and night)! 💫
