This February, we join Canadians in celebrating Black History Month 2026: “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries.”

We proudly stand in support of recognizing Black excellence in health care and beyond, honouring leaders and changemakers like Dr. Yvette Bonny, Dr. John Douglas Salmon, Dr. Onye Nnorom, and Clotilda Yakimchuk, whose work continues to advance more equitable care for all.

We invite our community to learn more about the lasting impact of Black leaders, past, present, and future.

Some things don’t change. A moment from a past campaign,
and a reminder that we are still a close-knit team, supporting one another and caring together. Then. Now. Always.

Meet Dr. Goytisolo, one of our dedicated family physicians. When talking about what drew him to Mount Forest and Area, he shares:

“I liked the size of this hospital. I wanted to be able to practice the full spectrum of rural family medicine, which would entail ER and my own procedures, while at the same time not being so remote.”

Our community gives him the best of both worlds, meaningful rural practice, with support, connection, and access to resources.

Curious about what it’s like to live and work here?

Creativity was in full swing this holiday season! During our 12 Days of Cheer, teams faced off in the Department Builder Battle—using mystery items to create sculptures representing their departments.

A big shoutout to our judges, Dr. O’Neill for taking on the tough task of choosing a winner!

Congratulations to the LMH winners, ER/GEM on earning a well-deserved department pizza party! Check out a few other creative department sculptures.

Malnutrition often goes unseen — but its impact is real. Malnutrition is a condition that occurs when a person doesn’t get enough nutrients to meet their body’s needs, affecting their strength, healing, and overall health. Across Canada, 45% of patients admitted to medical and surgical units are at risk of malnutrition. This leads to higher rates of falls, pressure injuries, longer hospital stays, and increased mortality. At the Wellington Healthcare Alliance, we’re taking action.

A recent screening across our hospitals found that 1 in 4 patients were at risk — and 90% were not receiving support for malnutrition. That’s why we’ve launched our new Malnutrition Prevention Initiative. Led by our Clinical Dietitians, Brooklyn and Mike, with the support of Cara Croll, Registered Dietitian, this Alliance-wide program is designed to:

✔️ Implement mandatory nutrition screening at admission using the Canadian Nutrition Screening Tool
✔️ Trigger automatic referrals to Registered Dietitians
✔️ Ensure assessment and intervention for every at-risk patient
✔️ Strengthen ongoing collaboration with the Canadian Malnutrition Taskforce to refine and improve our processes

These changes mean better screening ➜ better care ➜ better outcomes.

We’re committed to ensuring every patient receives the timely nutritional support they need to heal safely and fully.
