🔥 Paddy’s Pond Wildfire – Update August 16

✅ The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has lifted the Regional State of Emergency.

✅ With this decision, the evacuation alert for Conception Bay South has ended, and all Town-owned indoor and outdoor recreation facilities have reopened and returned to normal operations.

⚠️ Wildfire risk, however, remains extremely high:

🔥 The provincial fire ban and ATV ban in forested areas remain in effect. Please follow Government of NL channels for the latest updates.

💧 The Water Conservation Advisory remains in place until reservoir levels return to seasonal averages.

🙏 The Town extends heartfelt thanks to the firefighters, emergency personnel, government agencies, and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to keep our community safe.

💛 We also recognize that wildfires continue to affect other parts of Newfoundland and Labrador, where firefighting operations remain active. Our thoughts are with the residents, communities, and responders still facing these challenges.

✅ Please stay vigilant and continue to be fire smart.

🔥Latest Update, August 13 at 4:30 p.m.

The wildfire remains Out of Control, as per the NL Wildfire Dashboard, and is estimated at 300 hectares in size. Crews are actively working to contain the fire using all available tactics and resources. There appears to have been no new growth reported today, and there is no change to the evacuation alert area.

⛔Off-Road Vehicle Ban: The Province has banned the use of off-road vehicles throughout the province in forested areas to help prevent any new fires while firefighting resources are under strain.

⚠️Evacuation Alert: The alert remains in effect for all properties east of Manuels River. If an evacuation order is issued, you will not be permitted to return until it is lifted. Plan ahead: gather important documents, prescription medications, pet supplies, and other essentials. No other areas of Conception Bay South are under an evacuation alert.

🚘Traffic and Access

- For updates on Peacekeepers Way and Conception Bay Highway (Route 60), follow Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
- Do not stop to take photos. Distracted driving creates hazards and delays crews.
- Traffic congestion remains a concern. Please avoid all non-essential travel and stay clear of the CBS Industrial Park and Fowlers Road.

⚠️Facility Closures: All indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, programs, and events remain closed or cancelled to reduce non-essential travel and keep roads clear for emergency vehicles.

💧Water Conservation: Water supplies are under significant strain. Support firefighting efforts by avoiding lawn watering, car washing, and other high-use activities.
