Did you know? 🤔

Before he became the host of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert lost all hearing in his right ear as a child due to a medical procedure.

In his specific case, he could no longer pursue the career of a marine biologist because he could not get his ears wet; however, this opened the door to a new passion: comedy and performance. Colbert has shared how this experience shaped his path and helped him develop a unique perspective on life. His creativity, quick wit, and thoughtful storytelling have made him one of the most recognizable voices in late-night television. Colbert's experience reminds us that hearing differences are part of the rich diversity that makes each person’s journey unique.

Additionally, his story should act as a gentle reminder that hearing loss can change your direction sometimes, but it doesn’t have to limit your potential.

At CHHA-NL, we celebrate stories like Stephen Colbert’s that demonstrate resilience and creativity!

Help us spread awareness by liking and sharing this post!

We know that hearing accessibility is about more than just technology — it’s about belonging. Everyone deserves to feel included and be able to take part in public life, no matter their hearing ability.

That’s why we created Spotlight on Hearing Accessibility - to highlight public places in Newfoundland and Labrador that are making a real effort to be hearing-friendly. Today, we’re shining that spotlight on The Rooms in St. John’s!

June is Pride Month! We’re recognizing the incredible events and movements happening around the world this month.

In St. John’s, as in other places in Canada, our Pride Festival happens in July to capture important dates specific to our community (and to capitalize on nicer weather).

However, you’ll see events and acknowledgements from organizations around town and we’re here for it! The more Pride, the better!
