🌍 International Day for Persons with Disabilities 🌍
December 3

Today we recognize the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and awareness — especially for disabilities you can’t always see.

🦻 Hearing loss is an invisible disability.

It affects communication, safety, confidence, and daily life — often in ways others don’t realize. Creating accessible spaces isn’t optional. It’s essential.

At CHHA-NL, we work every day to break down barriers through:

🔹 Hearing accessibility resources
🔹 Education and public awareness
🔹 Youth programs
🔹 Assistive technology guidance
🔹 Community supports

Together, we can build a province where people with hearing loss feel understood, included, and empowered.

💙 Let’s make accessibility a priority — today and every day.

The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association has recently formed a development group which aims to create a national cochlear implant (CI) report card to address disparities in access to CI across Canada.

This group, comprised of CI users and hearing health professionals, is in the process of collecting data to assess five key areas:
1. Wait time from initial referral to surgery
2. Post-operative rehabilitative care
3. Geographical barriers for access to care (rural vs. urban)
4. Financial assistance for device maintenance and upgrades
5. Access to multidisciplinary care

As a prospective or current CI user, your input will be valuable to help ensure there is equitable and timely care for all Canadians who benefit from CIs, regardless of location.

Click on the link to complete the Cochlear Implant Patient Experience Survey, which will take 15-20 minutes: https://forms.office.com/r/azS1w0iM56.

The survey will close on November 15.

On behalf of the development group, we thank you in advance for your time. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Bowen Tang at bwntang888@gmail.com.
