September 10th marks World Su***de Awareness Day and September Su***de Awareness Month, a time when communities world-wide come together to shine light on a topic that is often left in the shadows. As an organization dedicated to supporting the Eastern Shore and Musquodoboit Valley, The Well-Being HUB strives to encourage open conversations about mental health and the importance of peer support within the community.
Su***de impacts people of all ages, backgrounds, and circumstances. In Nova Scotia, we've seen the profound effects that mental health challenges can have on individuals, families, and communities. The isolation that many experience—whether due to geographic distance, stigma, or personal struggles—can make reaching out feel impossible. That's why creating visible, accessible support is crucial.
This month, The Well-Being HUB is honoured to be hosting in collaboration with Eastern Shore Mental Health and Sacred Resilence two events to commemorate World Su***de Prevention Day. These gatherings are designed to raise awareness and provide ways for our community to come together. All details are provided in the posters included here.
These events represent more than commemoration—they're part of our ongoing commitment to building community capacity for mental wellness. Through our peer support programs, navigation services, and community partnerships, the Well-Being HUB works year-round to ensure residents can access the right care and services at the right time.
Su***de prevention happens through everyday actions: checking in on neighbors, listening without judgment, and knowing how to connect someone with professional support when needed. If you or someone you know is struggling, remember that emergency help is available through the Su***de Help Line at 988, crisis support through the Nova Scotia Crisis Line (1-888-429-8167), and help connecting to the mental health system and community resources through our Mental Wellness Navigator at wellness@wellbeinghub.ca or 782-446-1645.
We welcome you to join us this September as we strengthen the bonds that make our communities places where everyone can transition through life with hope and dignity.
