I have just dropped off my final restock at The Whistle Stop for the 2025 season. They’re open until Sunday so hurry in and sn**ch up some of the local goodness before the doors close for the year!

I have had a wonderful summer working with the shopkeepers and have so enjoyed having a place in the Harbour to showcase my products. Many thanks to Michelle, Paul and their amazing helpers for the fabulous job they did this season and a big thank you to anyone who purchased or enjoyed my potions. I’m sad it’s over so soon but so grateful to have been a part of it! 🚂 ❤️ 💫

Well friends, in yet another curve ball for small business, I have made the difficult decision to pause shipping to the US effectively immediately.

On July 30, an executive order was signed eliminating the long standing duty-free “de minimis” clause which allowed goods valued at less than $800 to enter the US without additional duty or tariff fees. This new policy takes effect on August 29th. Due to the hasty nature of this change, there is much confusion as to what this means for small businesses shipping goods to the US.

What I do know is this - Etsy informed its sellers this morning that shipping labels with US addresses can no longer be purchased through them. There were very few alternatives listed and at this point, I can’t even discern what the potential additional costs to American buyers would be.

The speed at which this was implemented has left shipping providers and sellers scrambling to figure out what this actually means. There will ultimately be different tariff amounts for different goods but it seems that for the first six months of implementations (because this happened so fast that no one knows yet!) the fees are charged at a flat rate of $80-$200 dollars regardless of the value of the shipment. Duties and tariffs were always the responsibility of the recipient but this new policy requires these fees to be pre paid when packages are shipped. The way I understand it, Canada Post is unable to predetermine and charge American package recipients for tariffs and duties leaving no choice but to cease service. I have spent the morning reading conflicting information, chatting with other sellers and reading bulky and conflicting US Customs documents and I still don’t have a clear understanding of what this actually means for the bottom line.

There are a few options I’m exploring with other carriers but the costs I’ve found are astronomical. No one wants to pay that and I don’t feel right charging it. I hope to have something reasonable and affordable in place soon but for now, US shipping has been suspended on both THERApotions.com and my Etsy shop. Thank you for your support over the years and I hope we can resume service to you soon! ❤️

It’s the weekend and a great time to check out some local shops!

If you’re on the Eastern Shore, pop into The Whistle Stop and take in the Musquodoboit Harbour Farmers Market. On your way, stop by Pieces of Wood for some local goodness and home decor pieces. The boardwalk at Fisherman's Cove is bustling this summer and Kismet Gifts is the best hut going!

Valley bound? Scotia Handmade Treasures just received a restock this week and they have sooo many locally made treasures in the shop right now.

If you’re headed to the South Shore, take a trip to the Cosmic Hippie Boutique in Mahone Bay, they have a fresh batch of potions and the CUTEST selection of dresses and clothes right now!

If you’re headed downtown this weekend, make a point to check out the Neighbourhood witch General Store on Barrington St., they’re my newest stockist and I’m in awe of how many magical tools, herbs, books and other wares they have in store.

This week find me at Fairview Farmers' Market Thursday evening from 4-7. There’s 35+ local vendors and I’m pretty sure there’ll be local strawberries! 🍓

Sunday afternoon we’re celebrating Christmas in July at Mic Mac Mall with The Mom Market Collective Inc. Halifax. There’s a fabulous vendor line up and a certain seasonal lip balm will be making a special appearance! 😉

📢 PSA: It is officially soft deodorant season!

If your home runs warm and you don’t have air conditioning (like me 🙋‍♀️) your natural deodorant WILL soften in the heat. Without chemical stabilizers there’s no way to keep a natural deodorant from softening in heat and hardening in the cold. You can keep your stick in the fridge for the summer months or just be very careful when applying that you don’t press on your skin too hard or wind up and expose a ton of product. My approach involves somewhat of a tapping motion and keeping the exposed product to a minimum - only turning the dial to what I need.

I promise you this minor inconvenience is worth it to keep those chemicals off your skin and out of your system! Happy summer! ☀️ 🥵 💫
