Trails Update! 🌲

All the trails managed by NACFOR (Arrow Park Trail, Galena Bay Trail, and the Jackrabbit Interpretive Trail) have received annual maintenance and are ready for you to enjoy!

Please note that all of these trails are non-motorized and should not be used by dirt bikers, etc. These trails are a great hiking, horse-back riding, or dog walking trail.

A fuel management prescription will soon be created for the Nakusp Rod and Gun Club rifle and archery range. The 9 hectare parcel north of Nakusp is an integral piece of the wildland urban interface for this community.

Thank you to the Columbia Basin Trust Wildfire Resiliency Initiative, through their partnership with the Province of BC, BC Wildfire Service, and the Ministry of Forests, for supporting this project.

New signage on the Jackrabbit Trail coming soon!

NACFOR will be designing some new interpretive signage for the Jackrabbit Trail in Wensley Creek this year. New signage will explain the wildfire risk reduction treatment techniques, and showcase the before and after of the hand and machine treatment areas. The signs will also include information about forest management practices and the various considerations and values that we manage for in the area.

This project is being supported by the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC. Thank you!

Earlier this week, the NACFOR management team led some Selkirk College forestry students on a field tour in Wensley Creek.

Wensley Creek, a recreation area for cross-country skiing, hiking, and biking, is within the NACFOR tenure. We showed the students our wildfire risk reduction work, and talked about specific management practices to protect values such as wildlife and domestic watersheds in the area.

It was so great to see such a large number of students in the forestry program!
