🧧 Happy Lunar New Year 🧧

Welcome the year of the water rabbit 🐇. Hop hop hop into the year with some new life and energy!
🧧
Themes for the year of the rabbit include turning within and paying more attention to our intuition rather than basing everything solely on logic.
🧧
Water finds a way through any barrier so you too are encouraged to find your way around obstacles.
🧧
Ways to celebrate the Lunar New Year:
🔻 Clean the house and sweep away all the old energy
🔻Replace any broken light bulbs
🔻Celebrate with friends and family
🔻Have lots of different dishes of delicious food. Ensure leftovers.
🔻 Liven up your home with fresh flowers or new plants
🔻Meditate on the year ahead
🔻 Set off fireworks to scare away evil spirits

With every year brings newness and change. This year is looking better compared to the last several years with the pandemic although there will still be some struggles that we must manage and find a way through!

Happy Birthing Day to me!!!

Two years ago today I brought our sweet little baby girl into the world! It is the most extraordinary thing I have ever done and I am continually blown away at what women’s bodies are capable of! They are extraordinary vessels or power, strength, endurance, courage, malleability, perseverance, force, and activation!

We don’t revere the female body in our culture unless it looks and acts (or doesn’t look and act) a very particular way. We are all missing out on giving respect and appreciation to where it is so desperately needed; the womanly body in every unique and dynamic formation!

October 27th was my first birthing day and I celebrate and acknowledge what my body did and was capable of doing. I will continue to celebrate and acknowledge all women’s bodies exactly as they perfectly are 💜

🍂Transitions 🍂

Who here likes transitions 🙋‍♀️? I am going through, what feels like monstrous transitions atm!

This week I started working at, not one, but TWO new clinics where I will practice acupuncture 😳😱🤯

This all came about a little while ago when we found out that there wouldn’t be a space to rent from anymore unless the lease was taken over by one of us!

I was tempted at first but took some much needed time to sit with myself and ‘feel’ what was best instead of thinking what was best! The hard yet liberating and beautiful truth was that a new time is upon me! A time to open new doors and make things a little easier and a little more peaceful.

As soon as I put out a little search for acupuncture jobs two opportunities presented themselves!!!

I will be taking over at Knead from an acupuncturist that just left the province and I will be covering a maternity leave at 3 Cedars for a lovely acupuncturist who is about to have a baby! Yay for babies 🍼

So here we are a new season, two new opportunities, and a new era for me and for AcuFunkture!

I will still be practicing from the Wellington location until the end of the year. So book in now before all my spots are gone!

My current schedule is:

Tuesdays: 12-6pm

Thursdays: 12-6pm

Fridays and Saturdays:
9am- 4pm

I will keep you posted about any updates or changes!

Please wish me luck and all the good vibes as I transition into this new era 💜💕💜

It’s May and I feel like it is the mothering month! Spring is the time of birth and newness, a time of Mother Earth, the great Gaia, who nourishes us all with what she provides and offers. Mother’s Day falls in May which just seems to fit with this theme.
👩‍🍼
Once I left home and was living on my own I was challenged to learn how to Mother myself. To not only conjure up, but listen to that greater knowing of what is best for me. How do I take care of myself? How can I provide myself with the nourishment, whether physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual, that I needed.
👩‍🍼
I feel like this is a) such a personal journey and b) such an essential part of self care. To mother oneself, to love oneself, and to care for oneself. It’s not an easy job that’s for sure. It’s hard to be mindful of all of the things all of the time. It is a full time occupation and hard to manage amidst all the responsibilities and happenings of day to day life.
👩‍🍼
Sometimes I am better at taking care of myself than other times. Some times I know what the better or best choice is for myself but I still don’t choose it. It is an ebb and flow, a journey, and a learning everyday.
👩‍🍼
RuPaul says “if you can’t love yourself then how in the hell are you going to love somebody else”! Amen to that. But I think, fundamentally, that we have to teach ourselves to love ourselves because it is not always an innate knowing. It is something we have to learn whether the hard way or the easy way 😉

Since I highlighted the new addition to the clinic I figured I should write about some of the benefits of TDP lamps!

An infrared heat lamp can do wonders for the body. It helps improves circulation including microcirculation. So even the smallest of areas gets flushed with fresh blood. Because of this it reduces pain in the joints, ligaments, muscles, and bones. Great for people with arthritis (peso or rheumatoid). It relaxes the muscles and any associated spasms.
It can also help with deems in the feet, legs, and hands.
Plus it just feels so lovely on the skin 🥰

I’ve had a lot of clients mention that the vaccine threw off their cycle. Many things can throw off our cycles! The important thing is to pay attention and seek help if you are having any issues with your period 😉

🧧Happy Lunar New Year🧧
🐅
Welcome the year of the Water Tiger 🐅! The Tiger is the king 👑 of all beats therefore representing strength and braveness. The year of the Tiger is a time of bold action. The Tiger is powerful, daring, and known to do things on a grand scale. This is a departure from last years’ metal Ox, which was about pragmatism and hard work!
🐅
Ways I prepare for the Lunar New Year include:
🔺Cleaning the house
🔺 Getting rid of unwanted and unneeded things
🔺Wearing red
🔺Setting intentions for the new year ahead
🔺Meditating
🔺Buying fresh flowers or a new plant
🔺 Not spending any money on the new year
🔺Preparing favourite foods for my family to enjoy
🔺Spending time with loved ones and letting them know what they mean to me ❤️

Ways I incorporate Chinese Medicine into my life: Day 6- how I manage stress.
😖
I had a hard day today. It just seemed like everything was working against me no matter how hard I tried and it was infuriating 😡
😖
Such is life. Some days are good, some are bad, and some days are terrible. But how to manage and navigate through the stressful days?
😖
For starters I swear . . . A lot, lol. But once that starts happening I know I need to give myself some support. I start by just acknowledging that I am feeling stressed about a situation.
😖
Then I will go for a walk, preferably in nature. Going for a walk moves qi which is what gets backed up, or stuck, when we get stressed. Going for a quick 20 minute walk can reset your system and give you a fresh perspective on everything. Furthermore seeing green from plants and trees also soothes the liver qi which is presently stuck.
😖
If this isn’t working I will often put some acupuncture needles in to help course the qi and calm me down. It isn’t always convenient to do needles on myself but if I can find a window of time and a quiet space I will take advantage.
😖
I also focus on my breath. Slowing down my exhales and focusing on the pace of breathing is an amazing way to calm the nervous system down which in turn calms the mind down!
😖
There is so much stress in our day to day lives it is important to have some healthy ways of managing it so it doesn’t overtake us or lead to health issues.
😖

Ways I incorporate Chinese Medicine in to my life- Day 4: I protect my Tai Yang a.k.a the back of my neck.
🧣
With the light dusting of snow ❄️ we experienced last night we are definitely into scarf season!
🧣
Scarves not only add extra warmth but they also protect the back of the neck, upper back, and a little bit of the head from cold 🥶 and wind 🌬 .
🧣
This area is called the Tai Yang named for the type of channels that run through here. This area, and these channels, are the most susceptible to being invaded by wind 🌬 and cold 🥶 which can ultimately lead to being sick 🤒.
🧣
One of the simplest ways to keep away from catching a cold (besides washing your hands 🙌) is to keep this area protected and warm through the fall, winter, and early spring seasons🥰

Ways I incorporate the practices of Chinese Medicine into my life - Day 1: Balancing the yin with the yang.
☯️
Most people understand that yin and yang represent opposites, which is true. What it also represents is rest and being active.
☯️
Yin is thought of as slow moving, stillness, or rest, while yang is thought of as energetic, moving, or fast.
☯️
When I try to balance the yin to my yang I am trying to add in some more quiet, unmoving, non doing. I’m taking a time out from all the busyness and the go go go to let my yin catch up to my yang.
☯️
This isn’t always possible. Some days are go go go (especially leading up to Christmas) and some days are more restful and still (like Boxing Day). My goal in it all is to try and find a balance between the two opposites 😉

Routine can be very good for the body especially when it comes to digestion. However, it can also be good to change things up and add some variety into our lives.
🔹
Spontaneity can be great to stimulate and excite the Shen. The Shen is our heart spirit and it thrives on things that are good for mental and emotional well being. Even if some things may not be “good” for you, like a big piece of chocolate cake 🎂, it can be good for the Shen, because it nourishes the heart spirit. It gives some life, fun, and enjoyment! I think spontaneity goes hand in hand with this.
🔹
Choosing to do something out of the ordinary, something that switches up routine, and adds a little spark can be just what we need!
🔹
Try and do something spontaneous today and see how you feel afterwards 😊
