Member Spotlight 💛 This is Heather’s story.
What made you decide to try Oxygen for the first time?
My first class at Oxygen Nanaimo was in February 2025. I knew I needed more movement. I had a gym membership I wasn’t using, so I decided to stop overthinking and just go, no expectations, just action.
What was your first class like?
I was nervous, but I loved the heat. The encouragement and reminders to be kind to yourself made me feel safe. I was also sore for about three days, a sign I had really pushed myself.
What keeps you coming back?
Honestly, it feels like an addiction in the best way. I try to go every weekday. The sweat makes me feel powerful, but more than the workout, it’s the community. I’ve built friendships and feel stronger, happier, and more social than I was a year ago.
Have you noticed changes in yourself since joining?
Absolutely. I’m stronger, healthier, and more confident. I even signed up for a half marathon while keeping up with classes. Mentally, I’ve grown so much. Oxygen helped me find my spark again.
What surprised you most about Oxygen?
The kindness and support in the studio. When I first joined, I was shy, but people learned my name, encouraged me, and made me feel welcome. The energy here is special.
What would you say to someone intimidated to try their first class?
Do it intimidated. I did my first class alone without knowing what to expect. The instructors guide you, and the community lifts you up. It’s a judgment-free space where you can grow alongside others.
Beyond Oxygen, what fuels your passion?
I’m completing a degree in Indigenous Studies, which has helped me understand my own experiences and those of many Indigenous youth. My goal is to inspire and support others. If I can help even one young person feel seen, strong, and capable, it matters.
💛 Heather, thank you for sharing your story. We are so grateful to have you at the studio.
