Avoiding high pressure feeding is key to a lifetime of healthy eating habits.
Either it’s restricting food on one side of the spectrum if you think your baby is too big or eating too much. Or force feeding on the opposite end, they can both cause the problem you are trying to avoid. As Ellyn Satter explains, this can lead to the kids overeating when they get a chance because they’re normally not allowed to, or underrating to make up for when they’re forced to.
Babies have an innate ability to self-regulate their food intake depending on their body’s needs. Provide them with healthy, balanced meals and a positive eating environment and trust them with whatever quantity they eat. If they ask for more, give them more, and if they’re done after just two bites, call it at that.
