Have you ever had an emotional reaction that felt *completely real*…
only to realize later your brain may have been sounding an alarm that didn’t fully match the situation?
Big feelings can be incredibly convincing.
Fear can say:
“This isn’t safe.”
Shame can say:
“There’s something wrong with me.”
Anxiety can say:
“You need to fix this. Right now.”
And when those emotions are loud enough, they can start to feel like facts.
But emotional intelligence isn’t about ignoring feelings or pretending they don’t matter.
It’s learning how to pause long enough to ask:
“Is this true… or does it just feel true right now?”
You can validate the feeling
without automatically believing the story it’s telling.
This week’s Window Watchers comic follows Bingley spiralling over a squirrel outside the window. Darcy reminds him that a big feeling does not always mean a big threat.
Honestly… most of us have had a squirrel moment.
