The weeks following a hospital discharge are one of the highest-risk periods for falls among older adults — yet it's often when formal support drops off the most.

Changes in strength, balance, and medication don't resolve at discharge. Recovery continues at home, and having the right support in place during that transition can make a meaningful difference.

Give our local office a call at 250-739-5770 and let us help you make your transition home safe and sustainable with Canada's #1 leading personal emergency response service. Help is just one button press away.

"There's this cascading effect of not building long-term care, it goes to the hospitals, emergency rooms, hospital beds. It impacts on doctor's offices, on ambulances, and ultimately, the family members." BC Seniors Advocate Dan Levitt

And we’re already seeing it.

With BC’s 65+ population growing rapidly—especially here on Vancouver Island—our healthcare system is under increasing pressure. Fewer long-term care investments don’t just affect facilities… they impact hospitals, ambulances, doctors, and families trying to support loved ones at home.

So what can we do right now?

We help people stay safe, independent, and confident at home.

At Nanaimo Lifeline, we provide simple, reliable support for:
✔️ Seniors living alone
✔️ Individuals with medical conditions
✔️ Anyone wanting extra peace of mind

Our local team is here every day, helping your neighbours remain at home longer—where they want to be.

📍 Serving from south Bowser to north Ladysmith
📞 Call us at 250-739-5770 to learn how we can support you or your loved one

And here’s the part that makes us different:
We’re a social enterprise.
100% of our profits go back into local healthcare through the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, supporting facilities like NRGH and Oceanside Health Centre.

If you’ve been thinking about getting support in place, now is the time. A simple step today can prevent a crisis tomorrow.

💙 Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week! 💙

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible individuals who give their time, energy, and heart to support Nanaimo Lifeline.

Our volunteers are the quiet heroes behind the scenes, bringing comfort, safety, and connection to those who need it most. Whether you’re installing equipment for our clients, making social phone calls to people experiencing isolation, or lending a helping hand in any way, you are making a real difference in our community every single day.

Because of our volunteers, more people in Nanaimo can live at home, safely and independently, with confidence and peace of mind. That’s something truly special.

From all of us at Nanaimo Lifeline—thank you for your compassion, your dedication, and your generosity. We couldn’t do this without you.

👏 Join us in celebrating our amazing volunteers this week! Drop a 💙 in the comments to show your appreciation.

Visit your local Tim Hortons starting April 27th to get a sweet treat to support healthcare for everyone north of the Malahat!

The sweetest event of the year is back. Smile Cookie Week returns April 27 to May 3 - and every cookie comes with a big impact.

For every Smile Cookie purchased at participating Tim Hortons in Nanaimo, proceeds will support healthcare across Central and North Vancouver Island.

Since 2010, Tim Hortons has raised more than $369,000 in support of local healthcare and we are proud to partner with our friends at participating Tim’s restaurants again this year. It’s a simple way to treat yourself while supporting healthcare’s greatest needs.

A huge shoutout to Sunshine Mountain Ford Lincoln for their sponsorship of tomorrow's Smile Cookie 2026 kick off!
