Cedar Creek Caskets

Cedar Creek Caskets Cedar Creek founder, Tom Simpson made a discovery while helping his mother with her funeral pre-arrangements. Cedar Creek Caskets meet these health regulations.

Cedar Creek Caskets is committed to producing a high-quality, culturally sensitive and environmentally responsible product that meets the needs of the Aboriginal community in British Columbia and beyond. He was desirous of finding some way to acknowledge and honour her passing with a tribute to her culture and life-history. Surprisingly, he found no caskets that celebrated her Aboriginal heritage. The funeral home where Tom and his mother were making arrangements even inquired about possible native suppliers of a product that would respond to this need. Tom spent nearly a year developing his working knowledge and preparing for a business that would eventually produce this design. Located on Snuneymuxw First Nation, Cedar Creek Caskets manufactures a high-quality, culturally sensitive and environmentally responsible product that meets the needs of the Aboriginal community in British Columbia and beyond. Caskets painted by traditional artists are available and ready for immediate delivery. If we are provided enough time (4 to 5 days) Cedar Creek can do images
as desired and directed by the family. Cost is determined by number and complexityof images requested. The caskets are constructed from Western Red Cedar from Vancouver Island,
in harmony with traditional values of take only what you need and use what
you take – our processes honour the spirit of the tree by both respecting it and
being grateful for it. Finished only in natural oils, our products are also reflective
of present day environmental concerns and may be considered “green friendly.”

Cedar Creek Caskets sells direct, thus providing families with savings of
30 to 60% over a retail purchase (funeral home). Current Consumer Protection
Act in British Columbia states that service providers - funeral homes, must accept
containers provided by families with no disbursement fees or fees or any kind,
provided the containers meet health regulations.

With the implementation of 25% tariffs by the US, the Canadian economy is going to be severely challenged. Despite our being a very small company the impact on Cedar Creek Caskets will be significant; our Washington state relatives will have to pay these tariffs on our caskets. They likely will explore other options given this large price increase. We ask that you continue, and expand, the “Buy Canadian” movement that is gathering momentum. We respectively ask that you consider Cedar Creek Caskets as a Canadian made option. These tariffs are correctly being defined as an economic war on Canada. We wish all our relatives, all Canadian citizens, and all Canadian companies well through this upheaval.

We have made some changes and improvements to our caskets. They are now lined in Native design blankets available in various colours and we’ve added natural fibre manila handles and lid straps.

In conjunction with our use of all reclaimed red cedar for our wood, these changes combine to enhance the environmentally sound nature or environmental footprint of our caskets. We are now a very “green” choice” as less metal is used, and our caskets return to the earth naturally and cleanly.

The reclaimed red cedar is a product of Nitnat First Nation and its members.

We have also made improvements to the structural stability and strength of our caskets via a thicker walled stronger base and improved assembly processes.

Paddle handle caskets with satin lining will continue to be available as an optional choice.
