Introducing Bronte Pike, Our Children and Youth Counsellor

Bronte Pike has been part of Nanaimo Community Hospice Society for over four years, supporting children and youth as they navigate grief and loss.
What began as a practicum placement has grown into a meaningful career dedicated to holding space for children, youth, and families during some of life’s most difficult moments.

“I am honored to be able to support children and youth navigating grief and loss.
I continue to grow and learn from those I meet and hold space for their personal experiences.”

Through compassion, connection, and understanding, Bronte helps create a safe and supportive environment where children and youth can express their emotions and begin their healing journey.
We are grateful for the dedication of team members like Bronte, who make a difference in our community every day.

Community Awareness: Supporting one another
National Indigenous Languages Day
March 31

We honour and celebrate Indigenous languages, the original languages of these lands.
Indigenous languages are deeply connected to culture, identity, and community.
They carry stories, knowledge, and traditions that have been passed down for generations.

We also recognize the ongoing efforts of Indigenous communities working to revitalize, protect, and strengthen their languages.

We acknowledge the importance of listening, learning, and supporting culturally respectful care for Indigenous Peoples in our community.

Language is identity, connection, and resilience.

Community Awareness: Supporting one another
International Transgender Day of Visibility
March 31

We recognize and celebrate the lives, voices, and contributions of transgender people in our community and beyond.

Transgender Day of Visibility is also a time to raise awareness of the challenges many individuals continue to face, including barriers to healthcare, discrimination, and inequity.
We are committed to creating a space where everyone feels safe, seen, respected, and supported.

Caring Together: NCHS Health Awareness Series
Purple Day
March 26, 2026

Purple day is a global movement dedicated to raising awareness about epilepsy and supporting those affected.

It was founded by Cassidy Megan to encourage open conversations, reduce stigma, and remind those living with epilepsy that they are not alone.
Epilepsy affects millions of people worldwide — yet it is often misunderstood.
By learning more, sharing compassion, and supporting one another, we can help create a more informed and inclusive community.

💜 Wear purple
💜 Start a conversation
💜 Show your support

We believe in caring for the whole person — including raising awareness for health conditions that impact individuals and families in our community.

NCHS Update/Reminder:
Next session of Musings on Mortality is March 26, Thursday, 6pm-7:30pm

Musings on Mortality is a community gathering for clients, staff, volunteers, and community members who wish to explore meaningful conversations about life and death — even if they are not currently at end of life or experiencing a recent loss. This is not a grief support group, but rather a space to reflect, share perspectives, and connect with others in a thoughtful and respectful environment.

Styled in a Death Café format, each session includes a monthly theme to help guide conversation.
The broader Death Café movement aims to increase awareness of death in order to help people make the most of their finite lives.

Please call (250) 591-8811 or email programs@nanaimohospice.com for details and registration registration process.

Kindness in action 💜

Yesterday, we shared a post asking for acrylic yarn donations—and today, something truly heartwarming happened.

A wonderful member of our community, Melissa Griswold, saw our post and came by to donate yarn and handmade shawls.

Moments like this remind us how powerful community support can be. These donations will help bring comfort and care to children, youth, adults, and families experiencing grief.

Melissa, thank you for your generosity and kindness—we are so grateful💛

We are still accepting acrylic yarn donations!
If you’d like to contribute, we would love your support.

Drop-off: Nanaimo Community Hospice Society
