This 1-hour webinar will provide an introduction to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP/the Declaration) that was passed by the UN General Assembly in 2007. It will then address efforts to make UNDRIP law in Canada.

Another retaining wall we’ve looked at is this one - 6 months old and failing.
There are restrictions on how high a wall should be before it needs engineering. Builders can work around that restriction by constructing terraced walls, provided that the slope is flatter than 1V:1H - but there are still considerations about how deep the bottom of the wall should be.

Everyone’s been very busy lately, and we’ve had a few retaining walls keeping us busy. One that some of you may see is at the Nanaimo Landfill. You will pass it if you are dumping rubbish.

Every day, we do things to help ordinary people make their dreams come true. When we’re not doing that, we’re helping structural and civil engineers, architects, contractors and developers move their projects forward. Sometimes, we get to help real estate agents sell property, and give prospective buyers the confidence they seek.
Whatever we do, we’re doing it with the conscience that it’s our best, with documented quality checks at each important step.

Here is another retaining wall failure (probably not engineered). We’ll be providing design drawings for remediation. The crest has moved about 150mm away from the house.

There is nothing like working on a property that was worth $1m with a house on it that was demolished to make way for a new home. Also, beware of shoreline properties in BC. If in doubt, we can often help.
