Hi, I’m Sean (he/him). I bring lived experience to my work, having struggled with drug use from a young age. After many years in the trades, I’d like to change paths and am currently completing my diploma in Addictions and Community Service Work. I'm doing my practicum with AVI's outreach program.

For the past few years I’ve been working casually in outreach, supporting people in our community. I’m passionate about meeting people where they’re at and helping those who want to make positive changes in their lives. Whether it’s just having a real conversation or connecting someone to the right resources, I believe everyone deserves support without judgment. Looking forward to connecting with more people in Nanaimo!

Hey there, I’m Alyssa (she/her), a 4th year Bachelor of Social Work practicum student from UVIC. I’ve had the privilege of being born and raised upon Unceded Snuneymuxw lands and location of the Sarlequun Treaty of 1854.

I was initially drawn to Social Work because of my lived experiences supporting family members alongside their substance dependencies and clinical mental health issues. However through my studies, as well as personal experiences, I have developed a passion advocating for the rights of s*x workers, decolonization and environmental justice.

When I’m not working or studying I love spending time in nature photographing our local indigenous wildflowers and listening to music from diverse genres. I’m feeling very privileged for the opportunity to work alongside the AVI team within a community-based setting & support members of our community who may need it the most.
