Nursing Throwback! 👩⚕️📸
It’s National Nursing Week, and we’re celebrating the remarkable nurses who now call Mountain Lake Seniors Community home. These individuals spent their lives caring for others—and today, we honour their legacy with a few fascinating nursing throwback facts:
🧼 In 1847, a nurse introduced handwashing into hospital care—this simple act helped drop death rates from 42% to just 2%.
🎓 Canada’s first nursing school opened in 1874 in St. Catharines, Ontario, shaping generations of dedicated caregivers.
👒 Until the 1970s, nurses wore white dresses, starched caps, and capes—symbols of pride, professionalism, and discipline.
