Hygge (pronounced Hoo-gah) is the Danish concept that incorporates a way of life. It can be described by words like; coziness, comfort, togetherness, contentment, gratitude, and joy. Hygge can be practiced in any season but winter is when we may need it the most. With the increased darkness and time spent indoors, winter can lead us to feel more sleepy and less inspired in life. Following a hygge mindset can bring more delight to this time of year.

Create a cozy and warm environment with things like:

-warm, soft light bulbs, twinkly lights, candles
-delicious hot beverages
-fuzzy blankets, pillows and slippers
-cozy spaces: hyggekrog = cozy nook, man cave, she shed

Activities like:

-games night with loved ones
-crafting: whittling wood, sewing, painting, drawing, origami
-reading a book
-doing puzzles, crosswords
-skiing, snowshoeing, building snow forts, sledding

Enjoying simple pleasures like:

-savoring a piece of chocolate
-gazing out the window
-pausing activities to enjoy a hot beverage
-having a long shower or soak in the tub

Cultivating wellness and being in the present moment by:

-disconnecting from the digital world
-acknowledging three things to be grateful for everyday
-mindfully eating: avoiding multitasking, chewing slowly, noting the flavours
-taking time for rest and relaxation

This time of year tends to be high on hygge due to the holiday vibes but it doesn’t have to end just because a holiday is over. Feel free to use these practices throughout the winter especially if winter is a hard time of year for you. When spring rolls around, hygge activities can change to suit the season. This may be the time to have bonfires and star gaze or go for a nature walk and listen to bird songs.
What brings warm fuzzy feelings is very individual so pay attention to what sparks delight in you.

Our self talk can be so cruel. We would never speak to others the way we do to ourselves. When you catch inner dialogue being unkind ask yourself how you would respond to a dear friend if they shared those sad thoughts with you.

Connecting with nature has been shown to lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, reduce nervous system arousal, enhance immune system function, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood.
Ideally we could regularly spend time surrounded by nature but there are ways to connect to nature in small simple forms when life is busy.

We can pause for a moment to:

•look out a window at grasses or trees moving with the wind

•notice changes in your house plants

•stop to smell a flower

•observe the clouds

•pay attention to the trees that you pass throughout the day or on your commute for work

What does Lao Tzu mean?

Spring is a time of tremendous growth, change, and movement. We feel this energy stir within us creating desire to get outside and motivating us to work on projects forgotten over the winter. Now more than ever we live in a time of constant bustle. It can be good to pause for a moment and remember that life moves forward on its own even if we don't push to make things happen. We can remind ourselves that while we are working we don't need to rush, we can pace ourselves and move gently. Everything will still get done if we slow a bit 😌

Bizzy Bees Spring to Life

Spring is a time of revitalization, when creatures come out of hibernation and hiding. It is natural for us too to get outside in the fresh air and exercise more as the weather warms. It may not however, come so natural as many of us have indoor jobs. We might think of little was to return to this natural rhythm. Maybe we step out on our porch with our morning brew, take a few steps around the yard or try at lunch time. Walk to do an errand. It doesn’t need to be long. Start with 5 minutes or 1

Helping you Create Balance in Your Health and Well-Being

Through the use of ancient Chinese medicine, I aim to help you find solutions for your health concerns. The techniques of acupuncture, cupping, heat therapy, dietary and lifestyle advice are used to help resolve issues around digestion, pain, emotional disturbances such as anxiety and depression and many other ailments.

The World Health Organization has a comprehensive list of illness for which they believe acupuncture and Chinese medicine are helpful in treating. See the link below.

The study of Chinese medicine has become one of my greatest passions and has aided me and my loved ones through injury and illness. My wish is to share this with others as well.
