A question I have been asked a few times working as a nanny. Because beside the mom I seem to be the only one who is able to put the baby to sleep. ☺️

My answer is short: “Reiki.” ☺️🙏🏻✨

I have always been lucky to support family’s who were open and welcoming Reiki as part of my child care. And it has not only served the little one and the parents but also me.

Reiki is very soothing and relaxing for babies and makes them feel safe. So when I see the first cues of tiredness, I take them in the carrier, walk around slowly, sing a lullaby and put one hand on the head and the other on the back for Reiki. It’s always really sweet to see them fully surrender and relax to this peaceful and calm energy of Reiki.

And it gives me so much confidence in my child minding to know that I can comfort them and they feel safe.

Reiki is especially beneficial to moms, to anyone in and outside of families who look after children, for birth workers and doulas.

What is the ideal time for first time moms to learn Reiki?

Before or during pregnancy!

Here is why:

✨ You can give Reiki to your unborn child to connect and support a healthy development
✨You can give Reiki to yourself when you feel stressed, anxious or have pain
✨ Giving Reiki to yourself also relaxes your baby
✨ After birth you can support your own recovery
✨ After birth you can do Reiki for your baby to help with adjustment, support bonding, for soothing and sleeping
✨ As soon as your baby is there it’s difficult to participate in a training - it’s a real hurdle for moms with small children (I’m working on solutions for that)
✨…

And here is why I recommend for your partner to learn Reiki as well:
✨ He can support you through all stages of your early motherhood journey - pregnancy, birth and postpartum (and onwards)
✨ To support you with pain, discomfort, anxiety, stress and worries
✨ To feel more confident himself as he feels good about being able to help you (anywhere)
✨ During your birth process he can support you to relax, find trust, connect with your body and baby and to feel more safe - which is essential for a successful natural birth and bonding experience
✨ Especially supportive for births in hospitals, as it is an unfamiliar environment with strangers which can be stressful
✨ Postpartum - he can support you with your overall physical recovery including birth injuries, sleep & emotional balance
✨…

You don’t need a massage table, you don’t need a special ritual. You just put your hands on the body. Either when you snuggle on the sofa or you lay in bed, or sit on a chair. It’s really simple. That’s Jikiden Reiki. It’s a home remedy. 🙏🏻🌊🌳☀️

Come and join us for the next Jikiden Reiki Training Shoden (Level 1).
Dates: October 18+25, November 8+9/ 16+22 in Location: Crescent Valley BC
Duration: 2 full days| 10am - 5pm each day

Or inquire to book a private training (min. 2 participants), either two full days or 3 half days.

I’m here to support you preparing for an easeful motherhood. ☺️🙏🏻🌸✨

I offered Reiki to a mom who was in a lot of distress. She responded that she might take the offer when she has made it through her crisis and feels better again.

Do you recognize yourself?

When a lack of support has already been a pattern in our maternal lineage or we have not received sufficient support as a child, it can shape us to a woman that continues to be the “maid-of-all-work” carrying all the mental load for her children and family.

It is the lack of female role models and the lack of the experience receiving support when we need it that promotes this continued pattern of managing it all alone, not even being aware of it and burn ourself out.

Because asking for help is so difficult. Maybe we judge ourselves for being weak if we did, or we just don’t know how. Maybe there is shame around it. Maybe we think we should be able to do it all on our own and just can’t open ourselves up to receive (yet). Or we are simply not aware and in survival.

In the idea to just push through and then we can focus on healing we unconsciously continue to sacrifice ourselves…our health and wellbeing, our presence and connection with our children and partner, and ultimately our own life quality.

Reiki is there for you to support and strengthen you through and finding your way out of that crisis, and to reconnect with yourself through the experience of deep relaxation, nurturing, inner peace, release and realignment.

My clients report that the world always looks brighter after their Reiki session and they feel relieved, more ressourced and hopeful.

Even in challenging times we can experience moments of peace, light and hope.

Now imagine you could learn Reiki and bring that source of peace, connection and emotional regulation in your every day life, beginning your healing journey together with other moms.

I often hear people say that you can’t really prepare for motherhood.

I don’t agree with that.

Of course, you don’t know how this experience and transformation will exactly change you. But there are many things we know of what to expect and that we can prepare for.

Here are 3:

1. Strong & healthy body: Motherhood asks a lot from your body, from nourishing another tiny human in your womb to sleep deprivation, constant demand and nursing.

The better your physical health the better the conditions to conceive, to maintain a healthy pregnancy, for a successful natural birth, postpartum recovery and managing stress.

2. Emotional healing: Often people start their healing journey when they have become parents because they run into overwhelm with raising their children, not knowing how to deal with strong emotions, conflicts and difficult situations.

Did you know that your child will inevitably trigger you in places that are still unresolved within you, places where you are still wounded but not aware of? Prioritizing your emotional healing, best before you become a mother, allows you to be more aware of what is happening in you, to gain more control of how you can respond in a healthy way. To me one of the most important aspects of preparing for motherhood because when your child is there, so much is going on for you, so much demand on you physically and emotionally already, it’s good when you have already achieved some level of emotional stability.

3. Education about physiological birth: When we give the responsibility for our birth experience entirely in the hands of other people, we do not fully show up for ourselves and our child. We are easily manipulated, insecure, might make choices that unintentionally can be harmful and we might regret later…just because we don’t know. It is your body, your child, your birth. Reconnecting, building a loving relationship with your body, educating yourself about physiological birth and choosing the right place and people for your birth makes you strong for you and your baby.

Would you agree that you can prepare for motherhood? How was it for you?

I’m curious about your opinion.

You are more powerful than you think.

There might be many moments where you don’t feel in control, when life just seem to happen to you and even though you give your best it still never feels good enough.

The inner and outer chatter from society can become so loud that you can’t even hear your own inner voice anymore. All the ‘shoulds’ of how to be to be a perfect mother can put you under immense pressure. It can literally burn you out.

What if this image that you are chasing (and many mothers around you) is not realistic? What if this actually doesn’t relate to any mother’s real life and experience?

At least that’s what I hear and see all the time. Moms under immense pressure to perform, having to know everything, doing everything right, having to have endless energy, always having to be in control, calm and balanced, and if there is something going wrong they even carry that guilt as well.

This is not an image of a human being. It’s an illusion. You don’t need to chase this anymore, no woman need to.

Instead empower yourself.

Prioritize your wellbeing and self development to get more in control, educate yourself on topics that honour your health, learn skills that give you more confidence in parenting and caring for your family’s health and wellbeing, become part of a like minded community. You can reconnect with yourself…one step at a time. But only you can make this change.

Learning Jikiden Reiki together with other moms who support each other in their journey towards self empowerment is one skill you can easily achieve.

It fills my heart and gives me so much purpose to support moms and children with Reiki. 💕

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing moms empowering themselves, prioritizing their wellbeing and aligning with their vision of a family that is healthy and in balance. It’s so sweet how much children love receiving Reiki. This is my way of peace making.

Testimonial from a local mother after her first Jikiden Reiki session:

“It was magical, actually. I loved my session, thank you. I had a lot to do when I got home and everyone was cranky and tired but I was able to keep a very level head. I also had no pain and usually around that point in the evening I would take pain medication but I didn’t need to. Yesterday morning I woke up in pain and couldn’t go back to sleep because of it. This morning I have woken up with considerably less pain.”

♡ For Moms and Moms-to-Be ♡

I hope you’re enjoying this beautiful, smoke-free summer - soaking up time with your family and making special memories.

I’m Anja, a Jikiden Reiki Therapist with 10 years of Reiki experience, offering gentle, trauma-sensitive support for moms and moms-to-be who are longing for wholeness, self-connection, and confidence - and who hold a deep wish for creating a peaceful, healthy family.

I help you reconnect with yourself, restore your energy, and gently release stress, self-doubt, and transgenerational patterns that are in the way of enjoying your motherhood.

In my healing space, children are always warmly welcome. Many little ones snuggle beside their mom during sessions or enjoy the play area while a mom friend looks after them. I want self-care to feel easy, natural, and included — no extra stress about childcare. Come as you are, bring your little one if you like, and leave feeling lighter, calmer and more connected.

I dream of a community where mothers feel seen, supported, and never alone in the ups and downs of raising little ones. This is why I also offer Jikiden Reiki trainings, where women come together to learn this simple, traditional Japanese hands-on energy healing technique to support themselves, their children, loved ones and each other.

My next Shoden (Level 1) training is Sept 20–21 and Sept 27–28 in Crescent Valley. Spaces are limited to 4 students per class. Apply today via the Facebook event link or email connect@anjajaskolski.com.

Overwhelm is nothing you choose.

But in order to feel grounded and emotionally strong you need to choose self care.

Overwhelm is the result of physical exhaustion and emotional distress.

There are two main contributors to overwhelm. Your physical and your emotional health and wellbeing. They are not two separate entities; they both are closely intertwined and impact each other.

Particularly the early phase of motherhood is physically very demanding and exhausting as you are facing sleep deprivation, your child and you being frequently sick and they constantly need your attention, presence and care involving all your bodily ressources.

Sleep is our usual time of rest and healing over night which is mostly impacted in that time.

If you are running low physically you also get triggered more easily as you simply have less capacities to deal with challenging situations.

Your emotional health in general on the other side, struggling with self-doubt, anxiety, anger, shame & guilt feelings and unprocessed childhood wounds, contribute in their own way to your overwhelm as well.

Reiki allows you to enter a deep meditative rest state where your body can fully relax and find the quality of rest that you would normally receive during a good night sleep. Reiki helps to move, lift up and release stuck emotional energy, brings new vitality and your whole energy back into balance.

Making a concious decision to prioritize your self-care, asking for and receiving support, will lead your way out of overwhelm.

I have still some open spots this week in Blewett:

04/26/2025

The connection to your child is like a flower that receives water to grow and blossom from the connection you have with yourself. 🌸

We are not available to our children as the mature adult parent when we relate to them from very early childhood parts in us that are still hurting and needing the love that we didn’t get.

Our children cannot heal our wounds and be the loving parent to us. But they will try and make it their life mission if they see us hurting because they want to help and love us so much. 💜

Receiving their unconditional love and reassurance might be soothing our parts temporarily but becomes a burden for our child. It creates a lack of love in them that they might seek in their own children later in life as well.

How do we stop this cycle?

Our children need us to own our hurts in order to see their unique light and to love them for who they are, free from unconscious expectations having to meet us and our needs.

When you notice that you feel hurt or angry when your child doesn’t respond to your desire to kiss or cuddle or says ‘no’ to you. It’s a sign that there is a young part in you that is still hurt and needs to be seen and loved by you.

From my heart to yours 💕
