We practice trauma-informed care by learning to watch and track nonverbal indicators of tension or relaxation from our patients, where we can FEEL a system shift under our hands and note changes in reaction to how we interact with our clients.

In my experience, presence is a practice, whereas knowledge is a study. Together, they provide the sense of safety we feel in the clinical setting, both inside ourselves and with the people we work with.
