EcoSoma Counselling

EcoSoma Counselling Welcome, my name is Valerie Law, and I am a Registered Counsellor living in Nelson, BC. Exploring mind, body, & nature.

I support folks to connect deeper to themselves, others, and the environment through holistic counselling, somatic and eco therapy.

When I was younger, I thought therapy always meant sitting in an office and talking—but it doesn't have to look like that at all!

Every person is unique in what helps them feel safe and open to the process. Some people love the structure of an office environment, where they can step away from the demands of home life. Others prefer the comfort of their own space, cozy with their favorite mug of tea, connecting online. And then there are those who thrive outdoors—walking in nature or sitting quietly under trees as they reflect.

Just like different therapy approaches work better for different people, the setting can also make a huge difference. I invite you to try out different settings and see what works best for you. Perhaps you'll be surprised!

I’m grateful to live in the Kootenays where there are amazing resource hubs such as Community Futures Central Kootenay. An organization that has been incredibly supportive to me in my entrepreneurial journey.

Along the way, I’ve had to content with my own expectations that I “should” be farther along or be able to do more by myself.

In reality, for me, trying to be hyper independent when learning a new skill, feels like a slog, is lonely, and not as effective.

As a counsellor, I’m fortunate, to have the opportunity to sit with other folks and witness their journeys. We are all unique yet, for many of us, we experience common themes. Some of them are: feeling like we need to figure it all out ourselves, unhelpful “shoulds,” not feeling good enough, and a sense of overwhelm with all that we juggle in life.

So, my invitation to us is to find those support networks in our communities and try them out! I know we can do it alone but… perhaps… it’s more fun not to. 😉

Everyone engages with the holidays differently 🎄✨. Maybe you're feeling excited, joyful, frustrated, sad, lonely, or a mix of emotions. Whatever you're experiencing, it’s normal—and you’re not alone 💛.

If you’re like me, you might find that in reaching for connection, you sometimes stretch yourself too thin 🫠—and suddenly, it feels like there’s just too much on your plate.

So here’s my invitation to all of us: slow down, step outside, and breath deeply. Let’s notice our connection to the natural world as a way to come back to connection to ourselves and others 🌿💚.

What do you bring when you go to a social gathering?

The purpose of gathering with others is connection, so let's set ourselves up for success and arrive prepared. ✨

Everyone's brain processes stimulation differently, and for some (like me), too much can lead to overwhelm. The good news? You can plan for it!

Here are a few items you might want to throw in your bag:
1. Earplugs
3. Wide-brimmed hat
4. Snack
...or anything else that helps bring you comfort.

Being prepared means you can show up as your best self, ready to connect! 💃

🌿 Accessible Mental Health Care at EcoSoma Counselling 🌿

I believe everyone deserves access to mental healthcare, regardless of financial circumstances. That’s why 25% of my private practice is dedicated to supporting clients who need financial assistance to access counselling. I understand that there are many social, cultural, and systemic barriers that can prevent people from getting the care they need, and I’m committed to continuously learning how I can contribute to a more equitable world.

Alongside my work with Open Path, I offer sliding scale spots for those who require a reduced rate below $125, but can can afford to pay more than $70 per session. I've also created a Community Equity Fund, where any amount paid above my regular rate goes directly toward offering pro-bono counselling for those truly in need.

If you or someone you know could benefit from this support, please reach out! You can also learn more about my work with Open Path by visiting my profile below:

🌻 Whether you’re seeking deeper self-understanding, navigating trauma or grief, or trying to sustain relationships that honour your authentic self, I’m here to support you. Being human isn’t always easy, and sometimes life’s challenges can feel overwhelming. You might feel deeply connected to others, the environment, and the bigger picture, yet still be unsure of the best way forward. In our work together, we’ll slow down, tune in, and explore healing at your own pace. Through a holistic blend of trauma-informed somatic and eco-therapy, we will make room for all parts of you to be seen, felt, heard, and integrated.

🌿 If you identify as neurodivergent, are exploring your identity, or feel like you don’t quite fit into society’s expectations, you are not alone. As a neurodivergent, q***r therapist, I understand both the beauty and complexity of living outside the box. I'm passionate about helping you find a sense of home within yourself.

🌼 My role is to be an attuned companion on your journey who will help you uncover the intuitive healing and resources your body holds within. When you're ready, I offer a free 20-minute connection call to explore how we can work together. I look forward to learning how I can support your unique journey towards greater wellbeing.
