Today, we’re making it easier for Nova Scotians to start their careers in healthcare!

We’re covering tuition and books for an accelerated Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program at NSCC. In return, graduates will commit to working in continuing care for two years, helping us care for our seniors and build a stronger healthcare system.

This 18-month program is a fast track to a rewarding career, and it’s all part of our plan to ensure better care for Nova Scotians.

New Release
New Glasgow Regional Police officially opens Community Police Office and introduces Community Response Officer.

We’re excited to introduce the newest role at the New Glasgow Regional Police (NGRP) – the Community Response Officer (CRO)! This innovative position is designed to focus on crime reduction through relationship building and community engagement, with an emphasis on finding systemic solutions to habitual and complex social challenges in our area. The CRO will operate out of our new Community Police Office located at 90 Provost St., New Glasgow, and will be a key player in connecting with local residents, organizations, and services to create safer, stronger communities.

We’re also thrilled to welcome Cst. Ryan Thibeau, the first officer to take on this role. Ryan joined NGRP in August 2024 and brings over 20 years of public service experience. Originally from Yarmouth, NS, Ryan began his career as a volunteer firefighter before becoming a Firefighter/Fire Inspector in Yarmouth and then Truro. He later served as a Deputy Fire Marshal for the Province of Nova Scotia, where he became a leader in fire inspection and investigation, while also working closely with NGRP and the RCMP in Pictou County.

In 2022, Ryan made a career shift to law enforcement, completing his training at the RCMP Training Academy in Regina. His first posting in Prince Albert, SK, gave him valuable experience dealing with gangs, the drug trade, and violent offenders. Most recently, Ryan served with the Bridgewater Police Service, where he gained insights into the policing challenges unique to Nova Scotia.

Ryan’s extensive background in public safety, combined with his leadership experience and passion for community involvement (including coaching local baseball teams), makes him the perfect fit for this role. We look forward to seeing the positive impact Cst. Thibeau will have on our community.

Stop by and say hello at 90 Provost St. and join us in welcoming Ryan to New Glasgow!

To reach the CRO directly, please call 902-752-1941 or email communityresponseofficer@newglasgow.ca

Running payroll can often carry hidden costs that many business owners may overlook. These expenses go beyond just salaries and include things like:

1. **Payroll processing fees** – If you use a payroll service provider, you're likely paying regular fees for each payroll cycle. The added processing fees can save you in long term administrative hours:

2. **Tax compliance** – Keeping up with tax laws and regulations can be costly, especially if you have to hire professionals to manage it or face fines for non-compliance. Late fees and penalties also add up for missed deadlines

3. **Employee benefits** – Contributions to health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits add to payroll expenses. Make sure you review exactly your portion and the employee portion.

4. **Administrative time** – The time spent managing payroll, whether by an in-house team or outsourced, can take away from other business operations. Admins do more than just process paper work and answer the phones. Outsourcing provides an extra layer of structure for your organization.

5. **Errors and corrections** – Mistakes in payroll can result in costly corrections, including potential penalties, interest, and administrative burden. Money isn’t always the issue, it boils down to time.

Regularly reviewing your payroll expenses can help you find areas to reduce costs or improve efficiency, whether through automation, better software, or outsourcing. Have you found any areas where savings could be made in your current setup? If you need a review, we can help!
