🌱✨ Today we’re going to talk about Impatiens Capensis, also known as Orange Jewelweed, Touch-me-not or Orange Balsam. After recently coming into contact with some Poison Ivy/Poison Oak, I’ve been looking for this gem of a plant. (Pun intended 😅)

It’s common in moist, shaded areas such as woodlands, bogs and marshes, along streams and lakes and in ditches. There are many benefits and medicinal properties to this beauty, and a couple cool little factoids.

✨ Fresh juice/sap from the stem and leaves contain this compound called balsaminones, and this beauty of a compound relieves the itch and irritation from Poison Ivy, Poison Oak and Nettles.

✨ Usually found near Poison Ivy and Poison Oak, so in case you brush up on those nasties, Jewelweed is always close by

✨It’s a POTENT anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory and is proven to help treat athletes foot, warts and corns

✨And for the cool little factoids;
You can make yellow dye from the flowers and the seed pods explode when you touch them and launch the seeds up to 4 ft away!!

So if you come into contact with Poison Ivy, Poison Oak or Nettles, find yourself some Jewelweed!! I know I’m keeping my eyes open!! 💎🌱✨
