The Pictou Bee Press is thrilled to be part of history.
Here is a photograph of the participants in “a very successful first reunion” of the descendants of the illustrious Bard MacLean (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iain_mac_Ailein) at the Barney's River School Museum, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, in July 2025.
They are proudly wearing their Bard MacLean t-shirts designed by The Pictou Bee Press and produced by Maritime Swag of Pictou. The oldest person attending this event is 95 and the youngest 8 months. The attendees represent the fifth, sixth, and seventh generations of descendants of The Bard. The participants hope to make this an annual event, expanding connections to other known relatives.

This t-shirt commemorates the literary contributions of Iain mac Ailein / John MacLean (1787-1848), The Bard MacLean, who came from Tiree, Scotland, to Nova Scotia in 1819. This esteemed poet’s words, Cùm a’ Ghàidhlig suas ri d’ bheò (Keep Up the Gaelic as Long as You Live), resonate through space and time as a reminder that this beautiful language should be preserved and honoured.
