Burnout isn’t just about being tired—it’s your brain waving a red flag. 🚩
If you feel like no amount of rest is ever enough, you’re not lazy or broken. Your nervous system is doing the best it can in a world that asks too much and gives too little.

🧠 Burnout literally rewires your brain—and not in a cute way. But the good news? Healing is possible. Rest is resistance. Boundaries are medicine. Joy is not optional.

✨ Save this post if you’ve been pushing through when you’re already running on empty—and share it with a friend who needs the reminder too.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month 💚

It’s a time to stand in solidarity with survivors, break the silence, and push for change.

Whether you’re healing, supporting someone you love, or learning how to advocate — your voice matters. Your story matters. You matter.

🌱 Healing from trauma is not linear. It’s brave, messy, and deeply personal.
💬 If you or someone you know needs support, help is out there — and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
At Makita Wiggins Counselling, I offer trauma-informed care that honors your pace, your boundaries, and your truth. 🫶🏾
You deserve to feel safe, heard, and empowered.

Boundaries aren’t about control—they’re about self-respect. 💡✨
For too long, we’ve been told that setting boundaries is selfish or mean. But the truth? Boundaries are the foundation of healthy, thriving relationships. They define what you will and won’t accept, ensuring that you’re not constantly sacrificing your well-being just to keep the peace.
And guess what? Boundaries aren’t just for personal relationships. You can (and should!) set them in work, family, friendships, and even social media. 🚧
✅ At work? You don’t have to answer emails at 10 PM.
✅ With family? You can say no to conversations or events that drain you.
✅ With friends? You can ask for the same energy and respect that you give.
✅ On social media? You don’t have to engage with negativity or access everyone 24/7.
Boundaries aren’t about pushing people away—they’re about creating space for healing, meaningful connections, and mutual respect. When you set boundaries, you’re telling the world: I value myself enough to protect my energy. 💛
And here’s the best part—healthy boundaries create growth. When you honor your needs, you also allow others to do the same. It’s a win-win.
So tell me—where in your life do you need to reinforce (or set) a boundary? Let’s talk in the comments. ⬇️

Lets start talking about Boundaries!

Lets start talking about Boundaries!

Let’s be real—many of us grew up in households where the mere act of saying “no” was seen as a personal attack. If you dared to say, “I don’t want to hug Uncle Joe,” suddenly you were “acting grown.” If you asked for privacy, you were “being secretive.” If you expressed your ow...

Black History Month always feels a bit different for me being from Barbados, where Black history is celebrated year-round. It’s in our culture, our everyday lives, and in the stories that shape our nation. While the world may dedicate one month to honoring Black history, for us, it’s woven into the fabric of who we are every single day.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t take a moment to reflect on the incredible achievements of Black Barbadians who’ve shaped not only our island but the world. Here are three powerful highlights from our history:

1    The Legacy of Bussa’s Rebellion (1816): The bravery of Bussa and other enslaved Africans who fought for freedom in the largest slave uprising in Barbados remains a cornerstone of our identity. Their courage ignited a fight for liberty and justice that continues to inspire us.

2    The Impact of Sir Garfield Sobers: Known as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, Sir Garfield Sobers put Barbados on the global map with his extraordinary talent. His achievements in cricket transcended sport and became a symbol of excellence and perseverance.

3    The Vision of Rihanna: From the streets of Bridgetown to the global stage, Rihanna has not only redefined music but also used her platform to advocate for social justice, health care, and education. Her success is a testament to the power of resilience, talent, and staying true to oneself.

Black History Month may feel different here, but it’s always a good time to celebrate our rich history and the remarkable contributions of Black people, both in Barbados and across the globe.
