One issue my clients come to me with is gas and bloating. They have tried everything, taken foods out of their diets, used beano to no avail. Gas can occur especially if you have changed your diet and added more veggies. That wonderful fibre can play havoc on you. So my first suggestion is this:
1. Eat slightly steamed veggies instead of raw. This will make them easier to digest.
2. Chew your food. Many of us power through meals for whatever reason and many of don't even realize we are doing this. So I suggest we become more mindful to see if in fact we are powering through a meal as though it will be taken away from us in 10 mins. ( if you are in prison I can't help, I think they have a meal time limit).
3. NO LIQUIDS WITH YOUR MEAL. Now we have grown up having drinks with our meals, milk, pop, juice, water etc. So it seems weird to just eat with no liquids.
Let me explain.
As you all know digestion begins in the mouth. Mixing the food with the saliva gets the digestive juices flowing and also gets the stomach prepared to receive the food in our mouth.
Once the food reaches the stomach those stomach acids get to work breaking it all down. The stomach acid is strong, as anyone that has had an ulcer will tell you, it will eat through the wall of your stomach. (that's another conversation).
It needs to work at FULL POTENTIAL! Meaning not diluted in order for it to do its jobs. So when we start drinking liquids with our meal it becomes diluted which then slows down digestion and foods start to ferment and we start to feel uncomfortable and bloated. Let the digestive process do what it is suppose to do.
The rule of thumb is this: stop liquids 30 minutes before your meal and do not start again until at a minimum 30 minutes after meal is complete.
This might be a difficult thing to change as it is so ingrained in us but if you give it an honest try you will feel so much better. If you need to have a few sips during the meal that's fine just don't use meal time as the time to catch up on all that water you didn't drink during the day.
Now I like to mention that if you are having a glass of wine with your meal I wouldn't worry about it because we usually sip wine with a meal not drink glass after glass. Well maybe you do and if you do you should stop. LOL
So what is the take away?
Steam your veggies
Chew food thoroughly
No liquids with your meals.
Oh and book a colonic to get your digestion back on track.
