Listen to the whispers of Winter before they become howls…
Winter reminds us to slow down, draw inwards, reflect, & restore our strength through rest.
Though we often receive pressure to “push through” exhaustion, sometimes to the point of disconnecting from natural warning signs that leave us with burnout, heightened irritation, fatigue or overstimulation. These pressures move away from nature’s rhythm.
When we listen to Winter’s invitation to slow down, and have the opportunity to nourish our whole being. Just as Winter rests and transforms into Spring, we as people need time to hibernate.
Wintering is unique to each person just as each snowflake is different. Here are some ideas as a starting point inspired by my experience as a counsellor, yoga teacher, and Ayurvedic Nutrionist:
❄️ Connect with practices that feel warming or grounding for you
❄️ Nourish with warm and cooked foods (soups, stews, root veggies), spices (cinnamon, ginger, tumeric, clove), and drinks (warm water, herbal tea, cocoa, golden milk, chai)
❄️ Gentle movement (slow or restorative yoga, walks)
❄️ Dress warm and connect with coziness
❄️ Introspection (journal, meditation, savour quiet moments)
❄️ Routine
❄️ Cozy environments (soft textures, warm colours and scents)
❄️ Rest
Greet each new day with warm curiosity. Be mindful of comparisons with social media presentations - you do you!
How will you be Wintering?
