Shakopee Friendship Manor Friendship Manor is a licensed, 80-bed facility in the heart of downtown Shakopee and is family owned and operated by the Riffe family since 1965.

The facility offers a warm, homelike feel that offers long-term care and short-term rehab services.

Our October Resident of the Month is Roger!

Roger was born in 1941 in Granite Falls, MN. He served in the Army for 4 years as a radio mechanic and was stationed in Texas. He eventually moved back to MN and worked at Spartans Discount Mart where he met his wife, Cindy. They were married in 1968 and had two sons Stephen and David.

Roger enjoys spending time with his two grandsons Dalton and Dylan, fishing, working on old cars, building cabinets, watching old Westerns, playing BINGO, going to the entertainment groups at Friendship Manor and being outside ☀️

Up next, our September Resident of the Month, Cris!

Cris is 84 years young and grew up in South Minneapolis near Minnehaha Falls. He enjoyed biking, swimming, water skiing and boating. After High School, Cris joined the Navy and he served on the USS Laws, a Naval Destroyer, which patrolled the Western coast from Alaska to Mexico. He was a Boatswain’s Mate and due to his vast experience in boating, he earned the job of ferrying the captain from ship to shore in the Captain’s Gig. This he enjoyed!

After discharge from the Navy, he attended Dunwoody Vocational School for mechanical drafting. Soon after he worked for Tonka Toys and began designing and testing new toys, mostly trucks. Over his lifetime he also ran Anderson Sanitation, later installed and serviced water softeners, and eventually wrapped up his working career as a Security Guard at Mystic Lake Casino.

In 1966, he married Monica and they built a home in Prior Lake. Here they raised their son and daughter and spent a lot of time camping out West and throughout Minnesota. In his spare time he generously gave his time to the Boy Scouts and was part of an adult leadership for troop campouts. He loved to snowmobile, 4-wheel, hunt and then later just watch the wildlife from the comfort of his recliner.

Today he enjoys spending time with his family including 4 granddaughters and 3 greats (so far). Cris loves to tell a good story and usually has a tale to tell or a memory to share with family and friends.

Lets learn a little bit about our August Resident of the Month, Fran!

Fran is a young 98 year old full of love, life and laughter! She grew up on the east side of St. Paul and went to school in a one-room schoolhouse a little less then a mile away from their home. You best believe she and her siblings walked to and from school each day! When she wasn't at school she helped on the farm and enjoyed listening to music. Her dad played the accordion and Fran loved to dance to Turkey in the Straw!

She met her sweetheart, Clyde, while in High School at Forest Lake and together they raised 4 children. Clyde passed in 2019 and Fran continue to enjoy spending time with her family and the many grandkids and great grandkids they share.

Fran has lived at Friendship Manor just shy of a year, and what a joy she is to us all 🥰

Wrapping up the school year with Mrs. Grillo's 5th grade class joining us for BINGO!

For the past 3 years, Mrs. Grillo's class has been pen pals to a handful of our residents. Always a fun celebration at the end of the school year where they get to take a trip to Friendship Manor and meet their pen pals!
