I have been a CPST since 2021. I work and live in New Westminster, BC. I run a postpartum support group where I often talk about car seat safety and do fit checks and demos. I also do checks and newborn demos most weekends between doing activities with my 4 kiddos.

Update!

Just coming on here as I often don't have time for much social media lately. I am still doing doula work but mostly as a volunteer in my community. I help run our amazing Postpartum Support Group at Temesewtx on Wednesday mornings with and I do carseat checks on the weekend. So send me a message if you want more information!

I love the birth world and one day will be back at births and helping parents navigate babylife. For now I am doing some postpartum support, mostly night support when I can fit it in.

Family life is busy. Kids are all getting older and having lots of fun creating memories and helping make our new home everything we want it to be. Also we are in the middle of potty training our youngest! She's been our most challenging yet.

A few photos from our first Postpartum Support Group Picnic. (No faces for this post) We were lucky to receive a grant from New Westminster Family Place and Neighborhood Small Grants that helped provide dinner for the families that have been apart of our group for the last 2 years. We had about 60 adults join us today! It was great seeing all the now toddlers, our current babies and the new babies who have just joined us. Catching up with all the parents and making new connections in the community.

A big thank you to Big Star Sandwich Co. who made delicious sandwiches for everyone.

Neighborhood small grants has gifted us not just one but two towards our postpartum support group! It's the second year we have been gifted towards our group. The second one this year is to have a summer picnic where all families past and present who have been apart of this wonderful group can get together. We are so very thankful for the opportunity to continue helping families during that first year.

Postpartum Support Group meets every Wednesday at TACC 9:30am to 11am. We welcome mom's /birthing parents with baby or without their babies, pregnant or adopting, straight out of bed or been up afor hours. Come as you are we don't judge. Coffee and tea is always available. The first year during that postpartum period can be very challenging. We help provide a safe space with peer to peer support to help navigate through.

Forgot the hiking backpack at home and the carrier we usually have in the car is in the laundry.... Luckily I am on-call for a birth so the rebozo was in my work bag! It also doubled as a running prevention tool when she decided walking was more fun.

What do I do as a postpartum doula?

There are many answers to this. My first job as a postpartum doula is to help new parents through that first phase of parenthood which is the "fourth trimester". What this looks like is different for every family. Some just need me to help watch baby while they rest, where others want me to walk beside them and help teach how to do everything on their own. There is not really one way to do this job. Often times while watching baby I can help organize space, like washing dishes, folding laundry or tidy up the room. Other times I sit and listen, tell stories, cry, laugh or just hold a hand.

The hard side of being a postpartum doula. It's hard watching parents struggle. Hard keeping in the "answers" because I am not there to blanket fix and take over. It's hard not having the answer, many times there isn't one. It's hard holding in my own biases that were created from my own parenthood journey.

What makes it worth everything. The moment that something clicks. The moment that I am not needed anymore. ❤️
