We’re sending a big shoutout to our physiotherapist Paige Payne, who’s been tearing it up on the field this summer ⚽️🔥

Paige plays striker for Altitude FC, North Vancouver’s League1 BC team—part of Canada’s pro-am women’s league. After winning the league championship, she’s heading to Edmonton August 8–10 to compete in the inter-provincial finals against top teams from across the country!

She was also selected to join the League1 BC Selects team in Kamloops last month to take on Arsenal U21.

We’re lucky to have this level of athleticism, drive, and experience on our team—both in the clinic and on the soccer pitch. We are all super impressed and proud of you Paige, keep it up! 💪🙌

Karen got out for the Cortofondo on July 13 and made the most of a sunny day on two wheels 🚴‍♀️

A good ride, some solid views, and a reminder that movement can feel pretty great outside the clinic too.

Way to go, Karen!

Keeping up with our physiotherapists ⚾

This past June, Chris traded the treatment table for ballpark bleachers, exploring Montreal, New York, and Boston with a childhood friend. Between the baseball games, sightseeing, and all the amazing food, he called it “cross-training” — how much walking, standing, and good food can the human body really handle. 😜

Now rested and back at the clinic, Chris is taking appointments again. Book your appointment online or call us 604-553-1203.

Keeping up with our Physiotherapists 🌎

Jamie Handfield recently got back from an incredible trip through Vietnam and Japan. She scootered her way across northern Vietnam, visited stunning temples, and ate her way through some seriously good food.

After that, she spent time exploring Japan before heading home. An epic adventure and well-earned break! 🛵🍜⛩️

We love how dedicated our physiotherapists are—not just in the clinic, but in pursuing their passions outside of work too. That balance is what makes them well-rounded, empathetic, and truly great at supporting our patients.

Keeping up with our physiotherapists ⚽️

Diego Grossling recently returned from the $1M TST tournament in North Carolina, where he was the team physiotherapist and medical lead for the Streetball FC!

This was Diego’s second year with the squad—they made it to the quarterfinals before a tough loss to Team USA this year.

We’re super proud of Diego and the Streetball FC and feel lucky to have this level of experience and expertise on our team 🔥

This week, our team had the pleasure of learning from Kate von Schellwitz, who joined us in-clinic for an in-service on pelvic floor therapy.

She walked us through the basics — from pelvic floor anatomy and common dysfunctions to simple assessment techniques and treatment strategies. Most importantly, she helped us understand when to refer patients for more advanced pelvic health care.

Pelvic floor issues are more common than many people realize — and they can affect people of all ages and genders. We’re grateful for the chance to build our knowledge so we can better support our patients and collaborate with pelvic health specialists when needed.

Thanks again, Kate, for sharing your time and expertise with us!

Curious about cupping and what it actually does?

Cupping therapy uses suction to lift the skin and underlying tissues. It’s a simple technique that can make a difference for recovery. It's a great alternative to standard massage and myofascial techniques.

Here’s what it can help with:
✔️ Reducing muscle tension and soreness
✔️ Improving blood flow to overworked areas
✔️ Potentially speed up recovery between workouts
✔️ Increasing mobility and range of motion

Athletes often use it for nagging tightness in the back, shoulders, hips, or legs. But it can be useful for all patients as a great addition to any treatment plan. If you're pushing your body and want to stay moving well, try some cupping at your next session.

Yes — you’ll probably have some round marks afterward. Yes — people will think you look hardcore. No — they’re not painful.

What a season. Here’s a look back at an unforgettable playoff run that Karen Nichol and the Royal City Physio team were proud to be part of.

For the first time in franchise history, the Vancouver Warriors clinched a spot in the NLL playoffs, finishing 4th overall and earning the chance to host the Quarterfinals at Rogers Arena.

They took full advantage of that momentum, defeating the Rochester Knighthawks in a one-game knockout before moving on to face the league’s top team, the Buffalo Bandits — back-to-back champions from the past two seasons.

Game 2 of the semifinals was back at Rogers Arena, and the atmosphere was electric. The energy, the crowd, and the support from the local community were next level. While the series ended in a tough 11–9 loss, this playoff run was a massive milestone for the team, the league, and the fans.

A special shoutout to our owner, Karen Nichol, who also serves as the Head Physiotherapist for the Vancouver Warriors — her expertise and dedication have been a crucial part of this journey. For Karen, the highlight wasn’t just the games — it was being part of the team during such a historic moment, and feeling the support from her patients, the staff at Royal City Physio, and the entire New Westminster and lacrosse community.

It’s been an unforgettable season — and a proud moment for everyone connected to the Warriors. We’re already looking forward to another big year ahead. 🥍💪
