Breastfeeding has long been linked to a reduced risk of breast cancer, but how it has this effect isn’t entirely clear. Now, scientists have found that women who have breastfed have more specialised immune cells in their breasts, which may keep malignant ones in check.

Previous research suggests that the risk of breast cancer – the second most common form of cancer in the world – is reduced by 4.3 per cent for every one year of breastfeeding, with the protective effects perhaps particularly benefitting older mothers.

For decades, Depo-Provera was marketed to women as a major convenience: you get one shot every three months, and you never have to remember a daily pill.

But newly published research has revealed some devastating risks to women’s health behind the product’s promise, and now nearly a thousand women are pursuing justice against the manufacturer, Pfizer.

In August we celebrate National Breastfeeding Month.

Breastfeeding is one of the most natural things in the world, and yet it’s also one of the hardest.
No one tells you how heavy your arms will feel, how tired your body will be, or how much of yourself you’ll give away one feeding at a time.

But they also don’t tell you about the way your baby will look at you like you’re the whole universe. Or how your body will do the impossible creating food, comfort, and safety all at once.

This month isn’t just about breastfeeding. It’s about honoring the women who try, who push through, who stop when they need to, and who love their babies fiercely no matter what that love looks like.

Here’s to the cracked nipples, the cluster feeds, the pumping in bathrooms and cars, the tears shed in the middle of the night, and the moments of pure magic when everything feels right.

Happy Breastfeeding Month to every mom showing up in the one of the most selfless ways possible. You’re not alone. You’re powerful. And you’re enough.

Today is the official Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. We will be participating in the International Wave of Light ceremony, by lighting our candles tonight at 7 pm local time for one hour and taking time to remember the little ones gone too soon. And supporting the parents and families who have experienced such devastating loss.

We don't just remember your precious babies today.

We see you. We hear you. And we are thinking of you always, especially today.

Allyson Felix holds a record 20 World Championship medals and 11 Olympic medals, including seven golds. She is acutely aware of what it takes to be an elite athlete, and an elite athlete mom.

She is teaming up with Pampers to create the first-ever Pampers Nursery in the Athletes Village at the Paris Olympics. The nursery will offer a space for moms to bond with, nurse and play with their babies, helping to alleviate some of the pressures of competition.

“I just knew how difficult it was to compete at the top level after I had my daughter, and some practical things were really hard. And so when I joined the Athletes Commission of the IOC, I really wanted to be that voice for athlete moms, and just take away one less thing for them to worry about in the pressure of competition,” said Felix. Bravo 👏
