Planting day with the Homegrown Society! Last weekend, a group of amazing volunteers got together to plant 100+ plants 🌱
This was the culmination of weeks of work - volunteers took on the task of removing an insane amount of the invasive species . This plant spreads its seeds in the wind and gains a foothold in forests like the in Aurora, Ontario by emerging earlier in spring than many native plants. By the time native species are ready to grow, garlic mustard has blocked their sunlight and outcompeted them for moisture and vital nutrients. Since its arrival in North America in the 1800’s, it has escaped into the wild and is now one of Ontario’s most aggressive forest invaders.
can be used to successfully compete with invasive woodland species such as 😎🤯👏
We were honoured to be apart of one of the last .grown.society events for the season - thank you!
