Small but Often Wins

5 minutes, 3 times a day beats 30 minutes once.

When it comes to injury recovery, consistency matters more than intensity. Many people think they need long rehab sessions to make progress—but the body responds better to frequent, manageable input.

Short sessions done multiple times per day help reinforce movement patterns, improve circulation, and prevent stiffness from creeping back in. Even just 3–5 minutes, repeated a few times daily, can create meaningful progress.

This approach also reduces the risk of overloading the injury. Instead of doing too much in one session and feeling worse the next day, you give your body steady, controlled exposure to movement.

It’s also easier to stick with. A few minutes in the morning, a quick session mid-day, and another in the evening is far more sustainable than trying to carve out a long block of time.

Recovery isn’t about big efforts—it’s about repeated ones.

If your rehab routine feels overwhelming, try shrinking it. You might actually get better results.

Dizziness is one of the most misunderstood symptoms. It's very subjective - meaning different things to different people - it can be interpreted as anything from being lightheaded to feeling like your head is spinning. Dizziness is a bit of a goto term for a multitude of sensations like vertigo, fainting, imbalance and lightheadedness.

Some key distinctions between symptoms:

Lightheadedness: feeling like fainting or blacking out, often caused by a sudden drop in blood flow - like when you stand up too quickly.

Vertigo: a spinning feeling, as if your surroundings are moving, often linked to inner ear issues.

Disequilibrium: a sense of imbalance (unsteadiness), usually when walking, often related to problems with your nervous system or sensory input.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) is a special form of therapeutic exercise, delivered by a trained physiotherapist, that can be especially helpful with the symptoms described.

Breaking a bone after 50, might be more than bad luck - it could be osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is known as the “silent thief” because it weakens bones slowly without symptoms. For many people, the first warning sign is a fracture from something simple like bending, coughing, or a minor fall.

These fragility fractures commonly affect the hip, spine, wrist, or shoulder and can seriously impact independence and quality of life.

Another hidden warning sign is height loss. Losing 2 cm or more over time may indicate a spine fracture—even without pain.

Pay attention to these early signs and protect your bone health before the next fracture happens.

4 simple ways to protect your bone health:

1. Strength & Weight-Bearing Exercise
Activities like walking, resistance training, and jumping help stimulate bone growth and maintain bone density.

2. Get Enough Calcium
Calcium is the main building block of bone. Include foods like dairy, leafy greens, almonds, and fortified products.

3. Maintain Healthy Vitamin D Levels
Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium. Sun exposure, fatty fish, eggs, and supplements can help maintain levels.

4. Build Balance and Stability
Improving balance and coordination reduces the risk of falls, which are a major cause of fractures.

What if your pain isn’t something to silence… but something your body needs you to hear?

Pain is often your body’s early warning system. It signals that something isn’t moving, healing, or functioning the way it should be. While most quickly turn to medication to reduce discomfort, it may also mask the message your body is trying to deliver. If the underlying cause—such as muscle imbalance, joint restriction, poor movement patterns, terminal illness—is ignored, the problem can worsen over time. Paying attention to pain allows you to investigate what’s actually happening and correct it before it becomes a larger injury. Physiotherapy focuses on identifying and treating the root cause, not just quieting the symptoms, so your body can recover properly and move stronger, safer, and more efficiently.

Injury Prevention and Recovery

That “small” pain you’re wondering about...is slowly getting more bothersome..

Physio helps you discover the root cause so you can address your injuries and help you recover faster so you are not sidelined from life.
----------------
When an injury occurs, the typical treatment expectation and focus is on resolving the pain. However, pain is an indicator that is connected to a problem. Sometimes the problem is obvious and isolated. You’ve gotten neck pain (whiplash) from a recent car accident – obvious solution: avoid getting into another car accident. However, with chronic shoulder pain, yes you want the pain and discomfort to stop. But if you don’t address the reason for the pain in the first place, measures to stop or reduce the pain will only be temporary. True recovery means understanding why the injury happened in the first place. Physiotherapy has the ability to look beyond the immediate symptoms to identify movement patterns, muscle imbalances, joint restrictions, or training habits that may have caused the problem.

By addressing these underlying factors, physiotherapy helps your body heal properly while reducing the risk of the injury returning. You’ll build strength, improve stability, and learn better movement strategies for everyday activities, workouts, and sports.

The goal isn’t just to recover — it’s to come back stronger, more resilient, and better prepared to stay active and reduce the potential for setbacks.

WHAT IS BELL’S PALSY

Bell’s palsy is a sudden, temporary weakness or paralysis of the muscles on one side of the face. It happens because the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII) becomes inflamed or compressed, which interrupts the nerve signals that control facial movement.

KEY FEATURES

- Rapid onset: Symptoms usually appear over hours, often overnight.
- Facial droop: One side of the face may look “droopy” or feel heavy.
- Difficulty closing one eye or raising the eyebrow.
- Reduced ability to smile or show facial expressions on the affected side.
- Altered taste, sensitivity to sound, or tearing changes can also occur.
- Typically affects only one side.

WHAT CAUSES IT?

The exact cause isn’t always known, but it is often linked to:
- Viral infections (e.g., herpes simplex virus)
- Inflammation of the facial nerve
- Stress or immune system changes

IS IT PERMANENT?

Most people recover fully within weeks to months — many start seeing improvement within 2–4 weeks. Early treatment (often steroids) can help improve outcomes. A small percentage may have longer-lasting weakness.

COMMON TREATMENTS

- Corticosteroids (first-line, if started within 72 hours)
- Eye protection (important if the eye doesn’t fully close)
- Physiotherapy or facial exercises
- Sometimes antiviral medication

WHEN TO SEE MEDICAL ATTENTION:

Seek immediate care if:
- Symptoms progress rapidly
- You have weakness in arms/legs or changes in speech (could indicate stroke—not Bell’s palsy)
- Symptoms don’t begin improving after a few weeks
