You’re seeing it light up the fitness industry with strong claims about its ability to increase muscle mass and promote weight loss. I often like to incorporate acupuncture as part of my treatment plan for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It has the advantage of improving symptoms while not interacting with any medications my patients may be on or causing uncomfortable side effects.

To read my latest blog post about the evidence for using acupuncture for PTSD, click here:

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)  is a debilitating issue that impacts people from all walks of life. It can occur after a person experiences significant trauma such as an accident, a traumatic birthing experience, a frightening diagnosis, being the victim of or witness to a crime and

Thyroid antibodies, anxiety and depression—there may be a link between these.

One of the most popular articles on my website is an article I wrote back in 2019 about how your thyroid antibodies may be impacting your mood.

In 2024, an exciting study came out providing more evidence for this connection. You can read my summary of the article by clicking below.

We all know that low thyroid hormones can lead to feelings of sadness and anxiousness. One of the most common causes of low thyroid hormones is an auto-immune condition called Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. With this condition, your body attacks and injures your thyroid gland which contributes to reduce...

Most of the advice around premenstrual cravings feels unsympathetic: “Oh, you’re craving chocolate…try to eat less chocolate.”

If it were that easy, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Read my latest blog post to learn about managing your premenstrual cravings realistically.

If you think you’re the only one who feels like they could eat a whole bar of chocolate or an entire pizza in one sitting before your period, you’re mistaken. Premenstrual cravings are common. Even those with a “clean” and rigid diet at other times of the month report strong, almost unstoppa...

If you’re stuck in an emotional eating cycle, this resource is for you ⬇️

I’ve spoken a lot about emotional eating over the years. It’s a topic that is near and dear to my heart because of my own past struggles with it.

Since I started my practice years ago, I’ve been helping patients break through their emotional eating struggles. I’ve learned what really helps and what doesn’t. I also know that managing emotional eating can be a winding journey and that having regular guidance is key to making that journey as smooth as possible.

That’s why I created a resource that could act as a companion and guide on the journey.

The Emotional Eating Journal is a 21-day journal designed to help you gain a greater sense of clarity and control over your emotional eating. This journal provides prompts to help you uncover patterns and triggers for your emotional eating and make impactful changes.

So much of the emotional eating advice out there is superficial:
“Drink water to distract yourself!”
“Have a bubble bath!”
“Eat carrots instead!”

Emotional eating is complex, and it deserves more than surface-level tips. The Emotional Eating journal is rooted in science, experience, and compassion. It offers tools that are practical, reflective, and empowering.
It’s a digital download that you can keep with you on your phone, laptop, or you can print it out.

To get your copy, click here: https://www.samanthadass.com/store/21-day-emotional-eating-journal

Disclaimer: This journal does not replace medical advice. It’s designed to educate and empower and help you reflect and dig deeper into your emotional eating habits.

Worrying about our children is part of being a parent. It's natural but if left unchecked, worrying can take over. I can relate to this and in my latest blog post I share some of my personal experiences with excessive worry as well as some tools to manage it. Click below to read:

I remember the first days and weeks with my first son so clearly. I was filled with the most raw and instinctual love I have ever known. At the same time, it was the first time ever that I was so acutely aware of my mortality and the mortality of everyone around me. In that painful, postpartum sta

Have you considered this tool to manage stress? 🤔⬇

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to calm the nervous system and improve many stress-induced symptoms.

How many times have you been told that stress is behind your…:
⚡️Acne?
⚡️Irregular periods?
⚡️Acid reflux?
⚡️IBS?
⚡️Migraines?
⚡️Insomnia?

You might be already trying many things to tone down your stress, such as meditation, yoga or deep breathing, but if you feel like you still need help...acupuncture may be the next step for you.

Acupuncture regulates the nervous system, which in turn has a potent effect on the other systems in our body that are impacted by the nervous system such as the digestive system, endocrine (hormone) system and the immune system.

This is often why I see acupuncture helping with so much more than pain. I’ve seen it clear up acne, improve bowel issues, regulate periods and so much more .

So if you feel like you need to hit the reset button and get the stress “out” of your body, send me a DM or visit the link in my bio to set up a free phone call where I can answer your questions about acupuncture.

P.S. These appointments would be covered under your naturopathic medicine benefits.

Dealing with vertigo? Here’s what you need to know. 👇🏼

If you’ve experienced a full-blown episode of vertigo, you know how unsettling it can be. The world tilts, spins, or shifts in ways that make even simple movements feel impossible. But vertigo isn’t always dramatic—it can also be so subtle that it’s frustratingly difficult to describe to others. Either way, vertigo is unpleasant and many people feel like they don’t have many options to manage it.

I remember experiencing subtle vertigo through a portion of my undergraduate degree. I would describe it as feeling like I was on a boat. The world felt like it was moving up and down ever so slightly. I called it “the boat feeling,” and it still happens to me during times of high or prolonged stress.

Vertigo itself isn’t a condition—it’s a symptom with many potential causes. Some causes originate in the brain and warrant a thorough investigation that requires imaging. Other times the cause is peripheral and could be related to:

👂Inner ear dysfunction
💊Medications like aspirin or sleep medication
☀️Nutritional deficiencies like iron or vitamin D deficiency
😣Stress and anxiety

Many of the cases I see are related to stress and anxiety. Common tools I use in my practice to manage vertigo include:

✅Acupuncture
✅Dietary changes and nutritional supplements
✅Herbal remedies

If you experience vertigo, save this post. The next time it happens, reflect on the factors that could be triggering your episodes and speak to a healthcare provider about it.

Comment with a 🙌 if you found that helpful.

About Me

I'm a naturopathic doctor practicing in East Gwillimbury, Ontario (which is a lovable gem of a town). My practice has a strong focus on mental health - especially anxiety. That means I also spend a lot of time helping my patients with related issues like insomnia, digestive issues, hormonal problems and skin issues.

I'm not a health extremist which means you won't find me recommending rigid diets and mountains of supplements. You will find me crafting plans for my patients that are health transforming but also reasonable, well rounded and rooted in science.

I love hiking, watercolour painting, history, spirituality and devouring fantasy books and movies (favourite author - C.S. Lewis).

My parents are from the West Indies and I was born and raised in Newmarket, Ontario. I love my Indian, Indo-Caribbean and Canadian traditions.
